"Khushi ji, kya aap hume apni Di manti hain?" I asked surprising her with the change in the topic.
"Haan Di, aap aisa kyoun pooch rahe hain?" she asked confused.
"Toh hum aapse jo sawal poochen ge, kya aap un ka sach sach jawab do ge?" she started to look worried, so I took her to sit on the bed and cupped her face. "Khushi ji, please, kya aap mere har sawal ka sach sach jawab do gi?" I pleaded. Please Khushi ji, just say that you will answer all my questions, I really want to help you. She seemed to search my face for a long time and she must have saw something in my eyes because she nodded.
"Khushi ji, kya aap hume aapki aur Chote ki dastan sunain gi, shuru se leke abh tak?"
"Di!" she sounded shocked, whatever she had been expecting, it wasn't this.
"Please Khushi ji," I pleaded, "Hum sab jaana chahete hain, aur please kuch mat chupaiye ga."
"Di, uss main to bohat waqt lag jaaye ga," I tried to evade the question.
"Khushi ji, aap aur main jaanti hain ke Chote abh bohat deer se ayenge toh humare paas bohat waqt hai," her eyes pleaded with me to take back my question but not today Khushi ji, now it is your time to share your story.
"Please Khushi ji, hum sab jaana chahete hain," I begged with my eyes to understand and slowly she nodded.
"Theek hai Di," she said before starting her story and I sat there stunned, unable to comprehend all that I heard once she had finished.
Chote and Khushi met in Lucknow where she accidentally ruined Chote's fashion show and fell into his arms. Chote had then locked her up in a room and broke her dori when she couldn't answer his questions. He had kept her overnight and that had lead to Payal ji's marriage being broken. Oh Chote, how could you do that, don't you remember how painful it is when someone's barat leaves the wedding ceremony?
They met again at a Dargah where Khushi ji tried to return Chote's 'mannat ki chabi' but both ended up having a tiff again on their different beliefs. The tiff was such that Chote's ego came into play and he released the footage of Khushi ji in his arms all over the media causing Khushi ji to be sexually harassed in public. This was how Shyam came into their lives. He saved Khushi ji from the goons and that created respect for him in Khushi ji's family and Khushi ji also trusted him as a friend. I sighed as I remembered that footage, did I not warn you Chote that it will have a huge impact on the girl's family?
Unable to handle the taunts being directed at them, the Gupta's sent their daughters to Delhi with buaji. And on their first day, buaji had an asthma attack and Khushi ji had rushed out on a scooter to buy her an inhaler. But as she was new to Delhi and in a hurry, she went into a no entry road and bumped into Chote's car causing many scratches. They once again argued and Chote had thrown money on her face to show Khushi ji her 'place'. I sighed as I knew Chote had this obsession with money and how the world revolves only around money. Hadn't he also slapped some stupid guy twice and paid him 2 crores, 1 crore for each slap.
This incident caused Khushi ji wanting a job so that she could pay back him back and, as luck would have it, she came to our house to sell the chikankari sarees. After that order gets cancelled, she asks Shyam for help and he finds her a job at the AR Design warehouse. However, Khushi ji couldn't find her appointment letter and had to go to the main AR Design building where she ends up with the job of Lavanya ji's PA. I have to hand it to Khushi ji, she certainly has a magnetic quality about her that always attracts trouble.
It was on her second day that she lit the diya in front of Devi Maiya's murti causing the fire alarm and the sprinklers to go off. Chote and her meet again when Chote goes home to change his clothes; this time in their argument, he rips her dupatta. I laugh when Khushi ji tells me how Chote calls Khushi ji's boss an idiot.
She tells me how some girls called Sim and Pam trick her into buying lunch for them and that Lavanya ji had to pay the bill. The caterer in the canteen, Manju ji, then comes and gives her lunch and advice. Khushi ji laughs as she tells me how Manju ji advised her; AR Designs is her sasuraal, Sim and Pam are her sister-in-laws, Lavanya ji is like her mother-in-law and ASR is her husband. As she goes to get ASR to sign her appointment letter, she realises that her boss is none other than the man who has been troubling and taunting her.
By this time, I was already expecting another argument, but what I wasn't expecting was Chote allowing Khushi ji to fall from his cabin. Who was I kidding, it wasn't Chote that let her fall but the ASR in him. But Khushi ji also had guts, she marches up to his meeting, covered in paint, and speaks to him defiantly. ASR hires her with an additional clause, 'if she quits before 15 days then she will owe AR Designs 1 lakh INR' and welcomes her to 'hell'.
I have to give it to Khushi ji, the way she tackled her first day at work by making the one of male models her brother was brilliant and inventive. Manju ji comes up with some great advice again: life's unfavourable moments are like the sukhi roti, life's unpleasant people are like the kardwi meethi ki sabzi; in our life we experience many different stages and this stage of your life is the bitter stage like the sabzi and roti, but that stage won't last forever, soon you'll get to experience the happiness that is life.
It was some really good advice and I could see that Khushi ji followed it religiously. Maybe that's why she could be so forgiving and loving, because in the end she always thought she would get her happy ever after. I promise Khushi ji, I will help you achieve your happy ever after soon.
Khushi ji's second half of her first day at work wasn't any better, ASR finds out that it was Khushi ji who caused the fire alarm to go off the previous day and is about to fire her when he remembers the contract; if he fires her before 15 days then his name isn't Arnav Singh Raizada'. My eyes widen as Khushi ji tells me how ASR slowly takes his blazer off and comes closer to her but a few centimetres away, he suddenly tells her to take a dictation. Khushi ji once again shows her intelligence by recording his voice and typing the dictation up perfectly. After handing that in and, essentially winning that day, Khushi ji goes home triumphant.
Here is the second chapter to this story. I wasn't initially planning on going into Arshi's love story in detail but then I realised that for Anjali to help Khushi, she really needs to know all the details. Plus I have enjoyed writing about all the Arshi scenes from the beginning and hope you too enjoy the trip down the memory lane. The next few chapters will consist of Arshi's story and Anjali's reaction to that story. I hope you'll all keep on reading to know how Anjali supports her Bhabhi. Thank you to all those who voted and commented, they make my day so please continue to do so, they inspire me to write faster. The English chapter will be up tomorrow :)
