My eyes stared out at the window in my room. Dark clouds were into the sky and lightning zoomed across the murky, obese and moody skies. It was sure to rain.

Thoughts were just raining on me.

Why was I such a failure in life? Why didn't anyone care about me? Sure enough I was a shipwreck, a shipwreck which just about everyone would like to avoid.

At school, a monster called 'mockery' tormented me. At home, everyone was suffering because of me. It was just because of me that mother, who was the first and only person to eat the lunch I had prepared, that she had gotten severely sick. I didn't know what I had done to make the food become poisonous. Everywhere I went, I was like the hugest destructive element.

Murphy's law: If anything can go wrong, it will go wrong.

I was devastated. Tears just rolled down my eyes. My heart felt so down. None of the books that I had tried  to read had made me feel better. Neither The Hunger Games nor Cinderella. Not even Imagine Dragons  could save me from the emotional breakdown I had.

     I am a loser, and that's a fact, I went on crying.

Suddenly, I felt the knocking of the door, and my face turned away. "Leave me alone!"

"Rose." It was my brother. "Are-"

"I said leave!" I stressed. Then silence fell. My eyes watered as I looked at the rainwater that ran down the window, making a 'tap! tap!' sound. I listened to the thunder that roared across the sky. Nature was at its finest. To tell the truth, I don't care about the sunset or sunrise, as most people do. I care about the storm, the beauty it ordains. The peace and chaos it puts together. And yet again, it was in the storm that I had my first accidental kiss (don't ask).

Two days later

The bright Monday morning started off as usual with the cliched 'actions that defined cool' for instance using skateboards and bikes and showing of, blah, blah, blah. Along with it, came a girl afraid, hopeless. Me.

I sighed as I started up the stairs when suddenly, a girl, almost my age, came rushing towards me, "Oh, hey bunch of flowers. How are you doing today?"

"Not bad, Janet," I gave a fast lie. And it could be seen. I guess she saw it in my eyes.

"My day was horrible as well," she said. "The CD shops were closed. Do you know what that meant?"

I rolled my eyes, and puffed the words, "No romance movies?"

"Technically, I wanted an album of Shawn Mendes but that works too," she shrugged. Janet was the cheesy type. I was quite the opposite. I loved novels like Divergent and The Book Thief. But it didn't mean I never read books like The Fault in our stars.  Apart from being a reader, I would watch movies, and at times, use Wattpad to put down some stories I'd think of. Some would call me a geek, for instance the girl who was standing next to me. But she'd only say it jokingly.

"Today, class, we will learn about waves. There are two types. Can anyone tell me what the heck those two types are?" Mr. Williams, our Physics teacher, asked later that day.

     Complete silence.

"Oh come on!" he said. Still no one lifted his or her hand. "Oh Jeez! I gave you this as an assignment. You were to all go and research on this."

"Excuse me sir," Janet lifted her hands. "I thought you said that we were to and revise on magnetism."

Everyone was nodding his or her head. However, we all knew that it was a lie, and that she was just trying to defend the us. Being the deputy class prefect, she was pretty good at it.

"What are you saying?" he asked. "I remember clearly stating that you should all study..."

"No," everyone shook his or her head.

He was clearly defeated, and thus he took his brief case, and looked at everyone, "Well then, if that was the case, I will all come with a quiz tomorrow, which you will all have to answer correctly. Anyone who will get a wrong answer, will be punished."

Everyone's heart was on his or her throat. We all gulped simultaneously.

"Good day," he said, looking at his watch and then walked out of the door. Just then, the bell rang, and everyone stood. People came to Janet's desk complaining. Others defended her. There was quite a commotion, but Janet wasn't shaken. However, as her best friend, I had to walk there and shout to each and every person that they had to leave.

     "Thanks," she said.

"Yeah," I said. "It's just what besties do."

Little did I know that Janet was yet to become my worst enemy. My greatest friend would become my greatest foe.
