Dear diary

Okay, as much as I adore Anne Frank, this is not going to work. It’s bad enough that dad’s forcing us to start writing a journal. I can’t call you diary. We’ll have to find you another name. But I can’t really think of one right now so let’s just settle that tomorrow alright?

I’m Lauren Michelle Jauregui. And well, like you, I’m new here. My mom passed away two months ago, so now I have to live with my dad. And honestly, I don’t know how I feel about that.

Don’t get me wrong, I love that I’ll finally get to live with my brothers. Those two mean the world to me. And my dad, well he’s Miguel Jauregui, a world famous musician, so yeah he’s filthy rich. This house is humongous. It’s got everything. And for someone who has lived a simple life, this all seems like a dream. But it’s really hard to feel happy when you know you’re leaving everything else behind.

Leaving Miami to move to this little town’s nowhere near easy. I’ve lived there since I was 3. That’s where I grew up. That’s where I became the person I am today. It’s hard to say goodbye to all that, but the sad truth is that without my mom there, it’s not really a place I can still call home.

Lauren’s POV

*knock knock*

“Lauren, you still up?” said the voice behind the door.

“Yeah, come in.” I answered as Doug opened the door. To my delight, he was carrying a tray with two glasses of milk and a plate full of cookies. This wasn’t new though. He would usually do this whenever they visited me in Miami. I guess I just thought that since we were already here in Chance Haven, he’d stop. But I’m really glad he didn’t.

“So are you ready for the first day of school tomorrow?” he asked as he took a seat on the couch. Yes, I can fit a couch in my room and still have a bed. I told you this house is humongous.

“Maybe? I don’t know. First days are always scary, but this is like twice that. I don’t know anyone here.” I answered truthfully.

“What are we then? Strangers?” Logan spoke as he walked in the room with a raised eyebrow. “I’m hurt.” he added, making Doug laugh as he ate the cookies.

“Lo’s got a point you know.” Doug said, riding Logan’s act.

“I meant other than you two.” I said, rolling my eyes and throwing a pillow at his head. “And Doug, stop eating all my cookies!” This was a normal thing for us. We’re half-siblings but it never really felt like that. They lived out here in Chance Haven but every summer or whenever they didn’t have school, they would visit me and we would bond the way siblings normally do – by making fun of each other.

“Learn to share Lo.” Doug said smiling at me. He calls us both Lo. Confusing, I know, but my brother is one stubborn guy. He says it’s cute how Logan and I have the same nickname and that there’s no way he’s adjusting for our convenience. My big brother’s just the sweetest.

“I will once you learn to chew.” I snapped back at him.

“Sassy. You are so ready to make new friends.” Logan added earning a glare from me.

“Whatever. I’ll just cling on to both of you. I don’t need to make new friends.”

“As tempting as that sounds, I happen to be a year higher than both of you so you probably won’t be seeing that much of me.” Doug said, bursting my bubble.

“But..but..but..”

“Don’t worry Lo, he’s never told you this but Doug’s like the man of the campus. Everyone wants to be his friend. Maybe he can lend you some of his fans.” Logan said as he snickered. Clearly, he was enjoying this.

“Well well. My big brother, the campus heartthrob? Why wasn’t I informed about this earlier?” I teased although this didn’t surprise me at all. Just the fact that he’s Miggy Jauregui’s son is enough to make him a celebrity.Add his good looks and his English accent to the equation and BAM, you get swooning girls. All my friends in Miami basically go crazy whenever he’s around.

“That’s because I’m not. Don’t listen to the buffoon.” He answered as he threw a pillow at Logan’s head.

“Ow!! Can we all stop hitting Logan?!” typical Logan, referring to himself in the third person. “And excuse me, I’m telling the truth.”

“Whatever. Why don’t you just introduce Lauren to your girlfriend?” Doug added, making me choke on the cookie I was eating.

“Logan has a girlfriend?? Again, why didn’t anyone bother to inform me?!”

“Because it’s not true.” Logan said flatly.

“Oh come on Lo. You and Camila are together like 24/7.” Doug argued.

“Kaks is my best friend. Nothing more. Even Lauren knows that.” Logan explained.

“And to think I actually had my hopes up. I thought I could play the bitchy disapproving sister to this apparently non-existent girlfriend.”

“I’m sure he’s told you they’re just friends but you still haven’t seen them together, Lo. I’m telling you, these two are just too stubborn to admit that there’s something more there.” Doug said with confidence.

“Well you’ll introduce me to her won’t you, Lo?” I asked with a huge grin. “Besides, I’ve really been looking forward to meeting this Camila. I feel like she’s someone I would like a lot.”

“Oh you would. But probably not as much as Logan likes her.” Doug added with a smirk.

“Shut up Doug. I don’t like her like that.”

“Who do you like then?”

“That’s none of your business. Why don’t you just introduce her to the rest of the Haven Hotties?”

“Haven Hotties?” I asked trying to hold in a giggle. “I swear, this night is getting funnier by the minute.”

“I’’ve told you about Alex, Max, and Matt. We’ve been friends for ages. We hang out all the time and the people from school, well they decided to give us a group name.”

“Ooooh. Does that mean I get to meet all the popular kids tomorrow?” I asked as Logan spat what he was drinking. He then turned to give me a high five as we both laughed at Doug.

“No. You’ll get to meet my friends, little sister. So I think it would be best for you to sleep now. I know how excited you are for tomorrow.” He teased as he grinned at me while handing me his glass of milk.

“Fine.” I muttered as I kissed them both good night.

“Good night Lo!” they said as they closed the door while I grabbed my journal to finish what I was writing earlier.

So yeah, I know being here means I’ll have to start over again. Make friends, build relationships and all that. But at least I’ll have family with me.

Well, that is if I don’t throw any of them off when I come out of the closet for the second time.

♥Lauren
