3 hours later

"doctor?"

"my name's dr. green kiddo, and yes?"

"is richie doing okay?" eddie was a wreck.

"he's doing much better, it seems he's going to live. you kids did a good job making sure he got here safe. he's gonna have to stay overnight though. he's in a coma, and will not be seeing any visitors at this time."

"okay... i understand... just tell him i love him, from eddie spaghetti."

the doctor smiled at him.

"i will," said he, "as soon as he wakes up, alright?"

eddie nodded and sniffled.

"hey," dr. green stooped down to eddie's level, "it's going to be okay, i promise."

eddie nodded and said, "i just care about him a lot." tears welled up in his big eyes.

"i know you do," dr. green stated sympathetically, "i know you do." and he gave eddie spaghetti a hug and let him cry into his shoulder.

"hey mom, i'm home."

"eddie, oh bubs why were you out so late? you weren't hanging out with that richie kid, we're you?"

"no, mom, i was just with ben and bev."

"oh god, is everything alright," she was violently caressing his face, "oh god is that a cut on your face, eddie?!"

"yes, mom."

"you were with richie weren't you?!" mrs. kaspbrak yelled sternly.

"n-"

she held his face firmly, tears in her eyes. "tell the truth, edward."

"yes, mom."

"EDWARD I THOUGHT I TOLD YOU NOT TO SEE THAT BOY!"

her voice was a piercing sound.

"but, mom, he's my best friend, and he's going to die!" cried eddie.

"LET HIM DIE! HE DESERVES TO DIE AFTER WHAT HE DID TO YOU! REMEMBER WHAT HE DID TO YOU?!"

"that was a year ago mom! you can't tell me who i can and can't be friends with! richie is my bestest friend in the whole wide world and nothing's ever gonna tear us apart!"

eddie was storming up the stairs to his room when his mother firmly grabbed him by the arm.

"I WAS NOT FINISHED, YOUNG MAN!"

"oh yeah? what else do you have to say?"

she was silent; at a loss of words, perhaps.

"yeah," eddie scoffed, "that's what i thought. leave me and him alone."

he continued up that stairs, but that didn't stop mrs. kaspbrak. she stormed after him, turned him 360 degrees and slapped him hard across the face, causing him to squeal in pain. she grinned at that, slapping him again. seeing the weak, vulnerable boy with blood on his face.

"mom," he coughed, "please stop! i'm sorry i shouldn't have talked to you like that! please don't hit me anymore! i'm so sorry!" the boy was screaming and crying. if richie was here, he would've shot mrs. kaspbrak on the spot.

"you will not be leaving this house, and you will not be seeing richie ever again!"

she slammed the door behind her.

eddie sobbed and sobbed and sobbed. he looked out the window to richie's house; not a light was on. not a single flicker in sight. the stars were the only things that lit up the dark night. he looked up to the stars, oh, how pretty they were. but his colorful tears made everything a blur. and then he wished upon the the biggest one. he wished for richie; his star

his sun.
