A/N : Just a disclaimer for this story... Fanfiction is my way of dealing with stuff, hence why Riker usually has anxiety in most of my stories, but I'm going through some serious family issues at the moment. This story is somewhat based on that because it allows me to write out my feelings and what I would want to happen if Riker was here with me. I'm not saying everything in this book is what happens to me in real life, so don't take it that way. It's very exaggerated.

Chapter 1

Kaelyn POV

After a lot of yelling and a loud door slam, the house was finally quiet. My dad and I don't have the greatest relationship. You could almost call him verbally abusive. But he has anger issues, so I suppose that's why.

He finds new things to yell at me for every day. And since we'd just moved here, he was yelling about how I was unpacking.

So instead of helping him and my mom unpack kitchen supplies, I was now focusing on my own bedroom.

I made my bed first so I'd have somewhere to sleep tonight. It was getting late anyways, and I had my first day of school tomorrow. I'm not excited at all. I'm just super stressed.

After a little while of unpacking, I got changed into my pjs and just went to bed.

The next day...

Kaelyn POV

My school day was going somewhat ok surprisingly. The classes didn't seem too hard. And the school wasn't too hard to navigate.

The only bad thing so far was that there were absolutely no empty tables to sit at for lunch.

I sort of stood off to the side, awkwardly looking for somewhere to sit.

"Hey. You're Kaelyn, right?"

I jumped a little, startled. There was a blonde boy standing next to me.

"Um... Yeah, I'm Kaelyn."

"You're new, right?"

"Yeah."

"Do you want to come sit with me?"

"Yeah. Thanks."

I followed him over to a table full of boys. It was actually kind of intimidating.

"Who's that?" One of them asked.

"This is Kaelyn. She's new," the blonde said.

I sat down beside the blonde at the very end of the table.

"So where did you move here from?" The blonde asked.

"Vermont. Um... What's your name?"

"Riker."

I nodded.

Riker got pulled into a conversation with his friends. So I just sat there quietly. I was just glad I had a spot to sit.

"Kaelyn?"

"What?"

"I was wondering if you needed help catching up on all the work our teachers gave you. I could help you."

I thought for a second. Riker's a stranger. But I have a lot of homework to do, and he seems nice.

"Um... Ok, sure. Thanks."

"You're welcome. Do you want to come over my house, or I could come over your house?"

"Um... Well my house is a bit of a mess because I just moved here. I'm not really unpacked yet."

"That's ok. I don't care. I could even help you unpack if you want."

"Um... Ok."

Why is he being so nice to me? This is actually getting kind of weird...

Riker and I exchanged numbers before going to our next class.

Later...

Kaelyn POV

Riker and I had our last class together, so it was easy to find each other. He had to stop at his locker, so I went to his locker with him. When he was finished swapping out his books, we left and started walking back to my house.

"So um... Why are you being so nice to me?" I asked.

"Well... You're new. My family moved here last year, so I know how scary a first day can be. I just want to help."

"Well... Thanks," I said, smiling a little.

"No problem. So... Where do you live?"

"Not too much farther. It's the next street down. Um... Riker?"

"What?"

"I just remembered... uh... My dad isn't too fond of... guys. Um..."

"Is he home right now?"

"Most likely."

"Is your bedroom upstairs or downstairs?"

"Downstairs."

"Maybe I could sneak in. You have a window, right?"

"Yeah, I have a window."

"I'll sneak in, how about that?"

"Ok..."

I was nervous now. What if this is all an act? What if Riker makes a lot of noise on purpose to get me in trouble?

I guess we'll just see what happens...

I brought Riker over to my bedroom window. And then I went inside my house. I silently walked past my dad, who was doing something on his laptop in the kitchen.

I went to my bedroom, and opened the window for Riker. He managed to climb in without too much difficulty.

"Alright, so what subject did you want to start with?" Riker asked, quietly.

"Math. I'm horrible at math."

"Ok."

Later...

Kaelyn POV

Riker was super helpful. He helped me get done with all of my make up work.

He had to go home for dinner, but he said I could sit with him at lunch tomorrow, so I was glad. He seems really nice, and even though I don't really know him yet, I just feel comfortable with him.

I got yelled at by my dad a little while later. I wanted dinner, so I was asking when it would be ready. My dad yelled at me for whining and called me lazy because I didn't help unpack today since I was busy doing homework. And then he sent me to my bedroom. So... I guess I'm going to bed hungry.

I got ready for bed, and then shut off my lights. And then my phone vibrated.

I picked up my phone as I got into bed. I had a text from Riker.

"Meet me at my locker tomorrow morning. - Riker :)"

I was kind of confused. But I told him ok.

And then I went to sleep.
