( Madison's POV)
15 min. later, Jason came to me on the playground and gave me a part of his lunch just like he said he would. Based on his facial expression, I could tell that he talked to Kevin and I wanted to ask him about what happened between them, but unfortunately he didn't have enough time for that, so I just thanked him for the sandwich and he left.
I ate it and then I went to the washroom a few minutes before the bell rang. Thankfully, nobody was in there, so I went over to a mirror which was above the sink. Actually, there were 3 sinks and they all had mirrors above them. Anyway, back to the point. I went over to a mirror and took a look at my reflection. I saw a short and chubby girl with straw blonde hair and green eyes. I was very ugly and fat according to almost everyone at school. "Why me? Why do people choose to pick on me? " I asked myself. Tears started gathering in my eyes until they started falling. "I'm ruining my brothers life and everyone elses just by being here." I thought to myself. I wanted to talk to my mommy. Unfortunately, that was impossible at the moment. I heard the bell ring so I wiped my tears away quickly, took one last quick glance at the mirror, and then I went back to class.
The rest of the school day went like it always did. Chelsea Harrington, Tatiana Matthews, and Amy Peterson kept talking about me and teasing me. They made up this game up called "Maddie Germs". One person in the room had it and that person had to try and pass "my germs" over to someone else. If you wanted to protect yourself from them, you had to keep your fingers crossed. Out of all the things that my classmates did and said to hurt my feelings, this was one of the things that hurt me the most. Did I look that digusting to everyone? I honestly didn't understand why things like this were happening to me anymore. I really felt like crying, but I was somehow able to contain myself. (The problem with me back then was that I didn't have the courage to talk back to those bullies. I know that now.)
School ended at 3 o'clock and then my brother and I started heading home. "So Jase", I started. "What happened between you and Kevin?" I thought he wasn't going to reply, but then he looked at me with grin and said, "Well, all I'll say is that everything is going to be fine and that you don't need to worry about him anymore. I'm going to set things straight tomorrow. He'll never talk to you or hurt you again. I'll make sure of it." I sighed with relief and then smiled. "Thank you big brother. You really are the best." I gave him a hug and then looked up at him. Then he became serious. "Don't tell mom or Ashely about what happened to you at school today." I looked at him confused and worriedly. "Why not?" He thought of how to reply. " I want to set everything right on my own. Just please don't. Promise me." I really couldn't fathom why he wanted to do this alone. He was up to something, but what? I had the feeling that I was going to find that out soon so I didn't put up any questions. I saw him giving me a serious look and I could tell that he was waiting for my reply. "Alright Jason. I promise." I finally replied. We started walking again, but neither of us said a word the rest of the way home.
(10 min later)
"Mom! Jason and I are home!" I yelled as I closed the door behind me. I heard Jason go straight to his room. "Hi Mads. Mom's still at the hospital working and she won't be home for another 4 hours at least." I turned to see Ashley, my sister, coming down the staircase. Like most of the people in our family, Ashely was a beauty. I was basically the ugly duckling in the family... except for the fact that ....I wasn't a duck. I wasn't jealous of her or any of my family members. How could I be when they were the only people in this world that treated me with respect and cared for me? Anyway, she had wavy brown hair and hazel colored eyes. She was 16 years old and she was a little taller than Jason. She wore a white tank top and a pair of skin tight jeans. "Come and give your big sister a hug." she said putting her arms out and smiling. I ran over to her and gave her a big, tight hug. Even though she was my sister, she was like a second mom to me. I could always talk to her about my problems, have fun with her, and also count on her no matter what.
