I clench the gold ring in my hand. Holding back tears. Cas is standing protectively by my side. Shadow and Lila are on my other side, looking as though they think they shouldn't be here. My sister. She fixes me with her ice blue gaze. Our mothers eyes. Tears stain her cheeks. She gives me a sad smile.

The tears finally come and I grab onto my sister. Hugging her, I won't let her go. She can't leave me alone. She's apart of me. Suddenly the two guards pull her away from me. I start screaming. The guards don't care. They're gone in no time.

Cas hugs me. I cry into his shoulder.

The ring feels heavy in my hand.

I wave goodbye to Cas and Shadow, Lila had left early so she wasn't late to her shift. Laris will be excepting me soon. I wipe away tears and walk into the den. I grab my brush from the counter and start to attempt at brushing my hair. I give up halfway and put up my long oak brown hair into a ponytail. Then I put on a blue button down and throw a blue skirt over my white leggings. Quickly tucking in my shirt, I throw on blue flats and start running out the door, shoving the ring into a secret pocket in my skirt. My sister had sown on that pocket. I flinch at the memory.

Laris house is in the rich side of town. Walking down that street, I see familiar flags representing the different ranks. White for lords, red for masters, green for captains, and even some blue for commoners like me. The red and white stripped door tells me I've arrived at Laris's House. His family has both lords and masters, the reason both colors are present. Laris is only a master, but his brother-Tarikane- is the famed lord of the land. He will replace the Governor next year.

Knocking on the door, I wipe away any tears I miss, forcing a smile to my face. Laris opens the door, smiling. He lets me in and I enter.  We start walking down the hall, he in front of me.

"I wasn't expecting you today Evalyine, escpecially since your sister is gone...." Laris attempts small talk. I just shrug. He gets the message, but stubborn as he is, doesn't give up. He stops walking and I stop before I can hit him. Good thing I have reflexes. He turns around to face me and sighs. When he places a hand on my shoulder i flinch, expecting him to drop dead. But my button down prevents that from happening. "Are you okay?" He asks, trying to read me. I keep a stone face and nods. He sighs and takes my hands. It doesn't last long.

He drops to the floor and I scream.
