Evaline's POV
I woke up to the sound of loud consistent knocking at my door. I had a massive headache, and that only made it worse. Plus my stomach giving convulsions like I might be giving birth to a food baby. I sighed and muttered a curse against the Supreme, then I open the door. Two men dress in silk robes the colors of black and red stand there. I've never seen someone with those colors on. They weren't the Supremes guards, and I've never seen anyone following Hedri around. So I just stood there, probably looking stupid.
"Princess Thland requested for your presence, please dress up a bit and come out when you're ready." The taller of the two says. He has soft milk chocolate brown eyes, and dark skin. I've never seen anyone like him back in my town. Then again, I never knew a lot of people. I bet they all know me now.
They take a respectful step back and I close the door. The first thing I do is throw up last nights dinner. I'm surprised i didn't throw up on them. I wiped my mouth with some paper towels, then brushed my teeth. Once my mouth was rid of the taste, I brushed my hair and put it in a nice tight french braid. I notice that the tip of my hair was turning black, and I wondered if that was because of the ring. I tried to ignore it and looked to see what was in my wardrobe today.
As I slipped into black boots, they knocked on the door again. I suddenly felt pretty revealing since I was wearing a sleeveless minidress with a white leggings that might as well be see through. And I was going to have a teaparty with some nine year old. If this was court life, I was in for a surprise. I quickly grab my white gloves and open the door.
They lead me down a hall that is empty. I can't stop staring at the man who informed me what was happening. Now that I'm studying him, I realize he's about my age. There was something about his voice that made him sound older, and maybe it was also the fact that he was a foot taller than me. He noticed my staring and slowed his pace to stand by my side.
"I'm from Jusicar," he whispers, and my eyes widen.
"On the other side of the world?" I ask. He nods.
"My people sent me here with my brother as a peace treaty. They killed my brother and sent me to the palace. At first, no one wanted me. Then Thland saw me and begged her dad to let her keep me." He laughed bitterly. "I'm just some toy around here."
"That's awful!" I whisper. He smiles sadly and we reach what I assume is her room. He opens the door for me and leads me inside. Then he's gone.
I can't stop thinking about him.
Thlands POV
When I had met her that night, I'd be lying if I said I had expected more. She was too soft. Not a commander, just a scared little girl around Gods. Daddy assigned me to toughen her up. And I will glady take the challenge. When she first enters the room, I wonder who dressed her. She looks more like a stripper than some princess. Hedri probably wanted some. I snicker to myself. My brother was so immature.
I motioned for her to sit. She did as told and I almost threw my pink teddy bear at her. She could tell I was mad because she gave me a confused look.
"You do not have to listen to a lowly princess, you tell me to sit before I ever tell you." I point out. She shrugs and I face palm. This will be a long day.
"CHARLES! {LEE}" I call. He appears in an instant. I watch as Evaline practically moons over him and I almost slap her. But then again, brothers cheating on her...
"I assume you want me to grab the tea Your Majesty?" He asks. I nod, pleased. He's way better than any servant I've had before, and I can see why Eva likes him. He's quite the lady's man...
He disappears and I turn back to Eva. "Now how do you sit at the royal table?" I ask. Immediately she straightens her back, expands her chest a bit, and hold her chin level. I applaud with joy. "Perfect! Now, this is how you sit everywhere. You never know when there will be a camera." I start to sound like Mother Cali. She was my teacher when I was still learning etiquette. And I'm done with that class, and I couldn't be more happy to get away from it.
Charles returns to the room, holding two cups and a teapot on a gold tray. He sets the two cups of tea down and starts pouring some in my cup. When he goes to walk over to Eva, he trips over my stuffed dog and he looses his grip on the pot. It slams against the table. I put up a barrier and little tea drops stop against it. Sadly for Evaline, she got soaked. I burst into laughter as Charles fumbles around, trying to find the napkins while repeatedly saying sorry. Eva insists its fine and after wiping herself off, she starts helping Charles.
Once a servant, always a servant. I could get used to this
