Second Chances - 13

"So, what kind of actor are you?"

Anita's question caught Kevin off guard.

It was like déjà vu.

(Flashback)

"What do you want to be when you grow up, Peebs?"

They were resting between takes.

Enjoying their Wall's cornetto ice cream - hers, chocolate and his, strawberry.

"I don't know? Still act, I suppose?"

"Yeah, but what kind of actor do you want to be? What kind of dramas? Movies?" She explained herself. "I mean, now we are stuck with the coming of age teen stuff, but soon we'll have grow into the more matured genre."

"Hmm... I dunno. What kind do you want to be?"

"I dunno myself," her eyes looking way beyond the hustle and bustle of the drama set. "But I feel like we should keep out options open. Maybe even beyond just acting."

"Beyond acting?"

"Yeah, like... What if one day we, for some reason, can't act anymore," her hands flew animatedly. "If we get too old. Or what if one day, the audience gets sick and tired of seeing us together, and want you with another actress."

"Or you with another actor," he frowned.

Inessa smiled at him knowingly. He's cute when he's jealous, she thought.

"You're meant for something greater, Peebs. I just feel it," she said and reached out to hold his free hand. "People should remember you as someone great. Matured, multifaceted actor or something more. And certainly not just a one half of a pinoy telecine love team."

He gave the question a serious thought. Inessa has always been an old soul, way beyond her 16 year old self.

Her mind always thinking. Always bringing up rhetorical questions and made him think deeper and far into the future.

Since their friendship was growing stronger by the day, Kevin was feeling more confident of where he stood with Inessa. And in his logical opinion, that place was by his side.

"I like action, but the heroine would still be you," Kevin said seriously. "And if the audience don't like it, they can go watch Kathneil."

Inessa smiled at him mentioning their rival's name, an up and coming Pinoy teenage love team.

"But having said that, I think I'd like to go into directing one day. And if I have enough money, producing."

With that, Inessa bestowed him with another smile, this time with open approval and pride.

(End of flashback)

He sobered at the thought and smiled sadly.

"I do your normal teledramas, really, nothing fancy."

"In whose opinion?"

"What?" Kevin asked in surprise.

"Your nothing fancy? In whose opinion is it not fancy?"

Huh? he thought, and his lips turned in a self-admonishing quirk, "mostly mine, I suppose."

"I thought so," she nodded.

What are you doing Anita? You're acting like you know him. Just based on the few moments of that faraway look on his face, you think you know him. And your heart straight away flew to him.
