Second Chances - 22

As he had explained, Kevin went back to Manila for his work engagements but managed to find the perfect excuse to come back to Malaysia three weeks after.

(Flashback)

"Kuya, hi!"

"Hey, Kevin," Director Molina broke his stride towards the breakfast nook at Kevin's greeting.  "Did you manage to get your shopping done?"

"A little, here and there," Kevin grinned.

"That's great, so you ready to go back home?"

"Yeah, well, I guess, but I was thinking of coming back here for an R&R."

"Ano? You like it that much here? It's way too hot, no?"

"You get used to it, I guess," he laughed. "But I love the food."

"Yup," the veteran producer agreed. "The food is great, I agree. So you plan on coming back in a year?"

"I was thinking in a couple of weeks actually?"

"2 weeks? Seriously? What will your mom say? She called me a few days ago to check up on you, you know?"

"Aish... she still treats me like kid."

"Well, she's got no one else but you, big guy."

"Yeah, I know."

"Well, anyhow, if you are thinking of coming back here sooner, Sam Yusof has invited some of us for a stunt coordination workshop 3 weeks from now. You wanna join us?"

"Talaga? That'll be great," Kevin said excitedly. "How long will the workshop be?"

"Only two days."

"Yeah? I wouldn’t mind joining you, then. After that, I'll stay on for a few days or so."

(End of flashback)

Her mother, however, was less enthusiastic at the thought of her son travelling without her again.

"Kuala Lumpur this time? And to learn stunt coordination? Haven't we learnt our lesson from the last time you did a stunt?"

"Ma, it's just a workshop, not the real thing."

"Well, is this person credible? Is the team certified?"

"Ma, Malaysia has one of the best stunt team in the region. They have Hong Kong partners. You know what professionals the Hongkees are."

Kevin walked towards the kitchen counter to pour himself a glass of water. He was tired from the final shooting of his drama, which went beyond the earlier anticipated two days.

Unfortunately, his manager mother accompanied him on the set and got a whiff of him wanting to participate in the two-day workshop.

"And yes, Sam Yusof is credible. He's second generation entertainment," he tried to justify his case. "His father started as an actor and is now one of the most respected producer director in the country."

"That's his father, not him. He's just a boy, I'm sure," his mother huffed.

"Ma..." He said tiredly, wanting nothing more than to end his hectic day with a long distance phone call to Malacca. "Don't you want me to be more than just an actor?"
