I stood up high on the highest tower where my eyes can view the scene perfectly.I watched him.
He stood there with his large sword, carrying it over his shoulder with one arm. His eyes deadly set on his target. Everything else in his surrounding was decaying. The ruins under his feet collapses and he leaps up with one force that shoots him high up from the ground. He flips over back and landed to the opposite side of the bridge.
I supposed I need to go there now, I thought. As I carried my feet off from the ground and stepped forward towards the edge of the tower where my body eventually fell and my skirt flaps against the air as I held on to my pocket watch. "It's time" I murmured, looking as the minute hand clicks 11:59pm.
I shifted my body and my feet touch the ground at the exact same time as I reach it, breaking my fall. I dashes towards where he stood and without even looking, he regards my presence. "I thought you weren't going to watch?" he says with his back facing me. "I changed my mind" I replied, "I want to see why are you so particular in killing this monster. You never gave interest to any before."
"Let's just say it's because of personal reasons" he explained, raising his five foot blade off the ground.
"Well then," I retorted, "Let's make this quick" I summoned my double sided battle axe and made a stance.
"I say five minutes" he uttered, reaching out with one hand as light emitted on the tips of it and soon the arcane symbols drew out.
"72 seconds," I groaned.
"How about three minutes? I'm not trying to simply rip a paper to shreds here. We're talking about a monster!"
"60 seconds"
"Seriously! I'm not god. Stop with the deadlines and let me focus here!"
The ground shakes and finally the shadows started to gather. From all my sides, miasma stated to lurk as well. I let my muscles loose and sharpened all my senses. I can see the corners of my vision lighting up. Perhaps I can kill it with one blow. "Stop it, Suzume-san. Let me kill it on my own. With you here that one minute will make it a split second; where's the fun in that? I need to do this alone" he complained as I shot him a glance. "First... Tell me why— why do you insist so much in killing this monster. Back at the academy, you never had any interest in becoming a slayer. So why now?" I asked, pulling off my weapon out.
The shadow finally took form before us, hovering about a size of an eight storied building. Smoke coming out from its mouth, its jaw protrudes out with gutting spikes and scales. Yellow orbs for its eyes that glew menacingly.
