Epilogue

As the sun rose on the New Year in Ylisstol and caught the party-goers spread across the city in its rays, it picked out the lone figure of a woman hastening through the melting snow and into the bustling city square.

Upon reaching its edge, she paused, shielding her eyes against the sudden rays that pierced the wintery darkness. Then her gaze fell upon the fountain at the centre of the square and the flowers that were littered around it.

As the people of Ylisstol cheered, the woman wove her way through them to the fountain. It was shaped like the divine dragon, and it spewed water dangerously close to the banner that had been strung across its wings. A Royal Baby is Expected!

The woman was carrying a bouquet of roses, rumoured to be Princess Robin's favourite flowers. She laid them down at the foot of the fountain and then approached the small pot that had been set a few steps above it. As per tradition, someone had anchored scraps of parchment beneath it and written Suggested Baby Names. They'd also left a quill and some ink.

The woman picked up the quill and scrawled something across a piece of parchment. When she was finished, she folded it in half, then dropped it in the pot and bowed her head.

"I know you will probably choose this name without my influence," she whispered. "But my presence in this timeline has changed things. I just want to make sure that you consider it."

She lifted her head and looked at the silhouette of the castle on the hill, taking a deep breath. Then she turned on her heel and pushed back through the crowds again, fading into the shadows of the nearest side street.

Behind her, a gentle breeze blew through the square. It rustled the papers in the pot, and one unfolded. The ink across it was still wet and now slightly smeared, but the name was clear.

Lucina.
