"What are you doing here?" I placed my hands on my hips in a defensive stance.

"No hug for daddy dearest?" He cocked his head to the side, awaiting my answer.

"Go fuck a goat," I sneered.

"It seems you've lost your manners since the last time I saw you. Five months can change a person."

"What are you going to do? Hit me again?"

I might have forgiven him but that didn't mean I was going to accept him back with open arms. I had not forgotten.

"That was a momentary lapse in judgement but you pushed me to it."

"I can't do this right now. You disowned me remember?"

"I threatened to. You walked out. But I'm here for you."

"No you're not. You want something." I narrowed my eyes at him.

"I want you to come back home. The company is doing well now. Someone bought 43% of the shares and took the risk. We can put this behind us."

"That's good to hear but no, I'm not coming back. I have a life here now. And a boyfriend." I probably shouldn't have said that because his eyes lit up.

"A boyfriend? Who is he?"

His tone irritated me. He was talking like we were okay already and like he was suddenly interested in my life.

"It's none of your business. Now leave."

Just then, Caspian took the liberty of barging into my apartment. He stopped dead in his tracks on seeing both of us.

Recognition flashed in my father's eyes.

I could practically see the dollar signs in my father's eyes.

Greedy bastard.

"Caspian Pierce. It's a pleasure to meet you, though I didn't expect to under this circumstance."

Psshh.

Caspian quietly closed the door behind him and came to stand behind me.

"Judging by the resemblance, I'm guessing your Kat's father?"

This idiot acted like he didn't know that already, but I was sure he already had a background check on me. I was okay with it though.

"Yes. Might I ask what you are doing here of all places?" He was too curious.

"Caspian is my boyfriend," I spat. I wrapped my arms around his torso and laid my head on his chest, emphasizing my point.

I think he chocked on his own spit.

"Your what?"

"I'm her boyfriend," Caspian spoke up.

"You have a boyfriend? Why didn't you tell me?" He asked like it was a reasonable question.

"Why would I?" I asked incredulously.

"I'm leaving. I'll be back very soon. Kate, I'm sorry."

I scoffed. He couldn't be sorry, his attitude has been there since I was a kid.

Don't come back, I thought.

I couldn't lash out in front of Caspian. I didn't want to. My dad padded his way out the door, only then did I realise that he had brought two familiar bodyguards with him.

I clenched my fists tight until I heard the door shut.

"Was it a bad time? You don't seem happy to see your father," he pointed out.
