Chapter 7: A Mine is a Terrible Thing to WasteI was so tired and ready to go to bed for the night. Jo had just moved in a few hours ago, so I was hoping this wouldn't be as terrible as I was thinking it could be. I was sitting on the porch next to Brick as I continued to write and listen to music. I didn't know what he was doing so I minded my own business. I'm pretty sure he was watching me anyways. . .
"The stars are bright tonight," said Brick, propped up by his elbows on his knees and resting his chin under his hands. I put my pen down and looked up, seeing Aquila and the Cancer constellations instantly.
I loved Astronomy. It was my favorite subject even though we never learned it in school. I taught myself when I was little when I was really into science and stars.
"It really is," I said, mesmerized by the skylight of the lantern-like stars that lit up the darkest blue of the sky, giving the galaxy life. "Can you see them? The constellations?"
"Other than the Big and Little Dipper?" said Brick, staring up. "No, I can't."
I chuckled, using my hand to hold up his in a certain angle. "See that? That's the tail, and those are the wings right there," I pointed with my free hand, "and that's the constellation Aquila."
"Wow, you must really know your stars," said Brick staring at me then back at the constellation.
"I just really like Astronomy," I said, shrugging. I realized I was still holding his hand and immediately released my grip as I turned away from him, my face flushing in embarrassment and slight nerves.
"Well, I think I should go to bed," I said, getting on my feet and closing my notebook. I waved at him goodnight as he waved back.
I opened the door of my cabin and instantly regretted it as I let out a loud scream. I've never seen something so revolting and weird and just plain creepy!
"What's wrong?!" I heard Brick shout from outside the cabin. I shut the door instantly behind me before he could see the horrors I've witnessed.
"What are you doing?! Put on some god damn clothes, woman!" I shouted at Jo who was working out naked! What's wrong with her?!
"Don't yell at me, I can do what I want!" Jo yelled, getting up in my face with her naked body. I had to look away. "We all have the same thing here! We're both girls. What's the matter with you?"
"The matter with me? If I was going to exercise I would still have my clothes on!" I shouted. "Just because you're in here alone sometimes doesn't mean you should do that! It's disgusting! What if a guy walked in?"
"And why would they?" said Jo loudly, getting irritated and annoyed by me.
"You never know, Jo! Don't do it again!" I shouted.
"I do whatever I want! You're not the only person here!" Jo yelled, getting in my face, glaring her eyes into slits that almost reminded me of Voldemort.
"EXACTLY! So keep your clothes on!" I yelled back. "And stop snoring! I can never sleep. It was bad enough when it was in a distance, but now in the same ROOM?"
"Maybe you should just move in with the guys!" Jo said. It sounded tempting even if she wasn't really meaning it.
"Maybe I will!" I shouted at her.
"Wait, are you serious?" asked Jo, realizing what I was doing, her shouting ceasing.
"If it means getting away from you, yes." I answered. I grabbed all my belongings quickly and brought it to the guys side. I heard her grunt again and count, meaning she was naked again and doing those jumping jacks. I shuddered, knowing I was scarred for life.
