Denial

K arrived at the building she works at. She greeted everyone she passed by.

She reached the elevator and went in. No one was in it so she was alone the whole ride.

She used that time to think.

I should've told him. I shouldn't have said yes. I wish I could take back that time.

Ding!

The elevator stopped. It brought her back to reality. She shook her head and walked out.

"K!" a woman who is her age called.

"Woah" K said "Anne! You are so loud"

Anne laughed "Sorry, I remembered that JM was supposed to meet with you today" she said "so, how'd it go?"

"Umm, it was fine" she said and went to her desk.

"Fine? that's it?" Anne seemed like she wasn't expecting that answer.

"Yeah. What did you think would happen?" K asked while typing at her computer.

"Well, I thought it would be like in the movies. You know, boy and girl love each other, one leaves, the other becomes sad, then they meet again and they live happily ever after" Anne said with matching hand gestures.

"Well, you said it already" K said "In the movies, meaning it will never happen in real life" she said

"K, I don't care, I've known you two since first grade. I know how you guys work" Anne said

"Okaay, I didn't know you can read minds" K said

"I don't" Anne said "everyone who knew you two could tell how you felt about each other"

"Really now?" K asked "Alright, let's just say that's true" she faced Anne now "Why didn't anyone tell us that 5 years ago?"

"Well, we all thought you'll eventually admit it to each other" Anne explained

"Hmm, okay, now where did that get both of us? K asked. She raised one eyebrow at Anne.

"Hey, it's not our fault you two were too scared to say anything" Anne said

"I had nothing to say" K lied. She went back to working on her computer.

"Riiight" Anne smiled. "Okay, I'll see you later then, I have a lot to do" she then left.

K just shook her head.

K was cleaning up and preparing to go home. It was already 9 pm.

She went down and left the building. She then went to her car which was parked in front. She went inside and turned it on.

*car noises*

"What?" She asked herself. Her car wouldn't turn on. She tried again but it started to smoke. She immediately got out and lifted the hood.

"Ugh!" she then sat on the curb and took out her phone.

"Hello? Anne?" She said through the phone

"K? What's up?" Anne asked

"Where are you?" she asked

"Um, I'm in my car"

"Hey can you pick me up?"

"Huh?"

"My car won't start"

"Oh, I'm sorry K. I'm about 20 minutes from work and I'm barely moving because of this traffic" Anne explained

"Oh okay, that's fine" she said and Anne apologized one more time before hanging up.

K decided to call her other friends. No one could do it. Also, no taxis have passed by.

After about 15 minutes, a car pulled up.

Beep! Beep!

"K!"

K looked up and saw a black sports car in front of her.

"JM?" she asked

"Yeah. Come on, get in" he said and K didn't hesitate to do so. She got her stuff and locked the car before getting in JM's car.

"Hi" JM said

"How'd you-" K was cut off

"Anne" JM just said and drove off

"Oh" K said "ugh, now I owe her a lot" she said. JM just laughed.

"Hahaha, you two seemed like you didn't change at all" he said. K smiled.

"You know you didn't really have to do this" she said

"No it's fine" he said "it's the least I can do since I left without saying goodbye"

K looked away and out the window.

After that they were silent for a few minutes.

"K?" JM said

"Yeah?" K answered

"Where do you live?" he chuckled a little bit.

"Hahaha oh yeah I didn't even tell you" K laughed and told him the directions.

"Thank You" K said. They were already at her front door.

"No problem" he said "you're my best friend. I'd do anything for you" he smiled. K smiled back. Blushed a little too.

"Thanks again"

He nodded.

"Well, I better go now then" he said and leaned in to give her a hug. She hugged him back.

JM hugged her tight she almost couldn't breathe.

"I missed you" he whispered in her ear

K was surprised but happy.

"I missed you too" she said back.

They stayed like that for a few more seconds before letting go.

"Bye" he said

"Bye" He waved at her then turned around. She watched him get in the car before waving back. Then he drove away.

She turned around and went in her house.

Wow, that was all she could say.
