Lisa POV

"Wake up, hun."

My eyes opened, burning like hell. If I didn't wake up now, my mom would be pissed for having to keep coming into my room. I rubbed my teary, burning eyes and yawned. "I'm up, mom."

"Ready for your first day of high-school?"

"Not really."

I haven't been in a actual school since the second grade. Ever since then I'd been homeschooled. Now I'm fifteen years old. Long time since I've actually socialized with people.

"Well it's not like you have a choice," My mother said, giving me a apologetic smile. "I'm gonna go get you're clothes, one sec," she kissed my forehead and left my room.

I snuggled into my blanket, yawning once more. A few moments later my mom makes her way back into my room, switching on the light, opening the window curtains, and sitting on the edge of my bed with my clothes. "Mom," I squinted my eyes.

"Wake up," mom pulled the blanket off my body and started to pull off my night shorts to put on my fresh new black High-Waisted Skinny Jeans. Taking off my t-shirt, she replaced it with my also new white pullover sweater . "I'm so proud of you," my mom teared up. I rolled my eyes, but I can't blame her. As I said, I haven't had actual school since the second grade.

"Love you."

"Love you too," she smiled. "Anyway, ready?"

I nodded, and on three, she picked me up from my bed and sat me on my wheelchair.

Yes, wheelchair.

I took a deep breath, looking back at my mom giving her a smile before she drove out into the New York City streets. I gulped, watching as a bunch of creatures – I mean teenagers, made themselves into the school. I started to roll myself in before I started getting weird looks.

I found my way to the office – on my own, panting from the exhaustion in my arms. I could've taken my electric wheelchair to school, but decided it would attract too much attention. It was good exercise for my arms to push the wheels, anyway.

After talking to the lady in the office about the school, blah blah, I finally got my schedule and made myself out and to the elevators. I was about to push the button myself before someone else's fingers made it there first. I noticed her nails were freshly painted. She wore a Chanel collar T-shirt that was black, tucked into her white tennis skirt. I noticed her shirt matched her nails. She was so girly... It fit her well.

"Thanks," I smiled.

"No problem... Hi," she smiled back shyly, fixing hair.

"Um, hi."

The elevator doors opened, and she held them open for me. I smiled again, rolling myself in as she followed behind me. I spotted that we were wearing the same white converse.

"I'm Jennie. I took the elevator because I'm really clumsy on the stairs." She said, pressing the button. I noticed we were going to the same floor.

"I'm Lisa. I took the elevator because I'm stuck in this wheelchair for the rest of my life."

"Cool," she replied, but quickly frowned. "I mean- I- No-"

"I know what you meant, don't stress it," I interrupted. "Really, it is, Jennie " I reassured

"Okay," she smiled.

Jennie is... adorable and pretty, can I say.

The elevator doors open and we made ourselves out into the busy hallway. Do I have to do this?

"Well, I gotta head to the bathroom. Catch ya later, Lisa?"

"Sure."

And she was off.

Jennie. She's nice. Too bad I'm not planning on making any friends.

When I made myself to class, I remembered that I would have a nurse to give me my meds at the scheduled time. We greeted each outside the classroom (we've already met) and decided she'd sit outside instead of in the classroom.

* * *

I sat at the lunch table, alone, earbuds in my ears as I chewed my turkey sandwich.

"Lalisa Manoban."

Well I'm not alone anymore. Jennie sat herself down across from me, dropping her bag to the shiny floor and placing her food tray on the table. I also realized she remembered my last name. Probably because I have to introduce myself in every class. It's not like anyone cares who I am. Not even I do. Any-who, me and Jennie have another thing in common other than boots; our class schedule.

" Jennie Kim."

"You remembered my name," she smiled, unwrapping her sandwich.

Is she having turkey too?

"And you remembered mine," I smiled, taking another bite. I finally paused my music and took my earbuds out.

"What are you listening too?"

"What? –Oh, uh, Niki.. Around."

"Nice," she swallowed, followed by another bite.

"Well... I should go, bye," I placed my lunch on my lap, grabbed my bag from on top of the table and rolled away.

"Oh- bye!"

I could tell in her voice she was disappointed, but I couldn't talk any longer I promised myself, no friends. No one wants to talk to you anyway, you're just some wheelchair kid.

* * *

She approached me again when I was at my locker - well not really, since we're locker neighbors. I bet my mom paid her to try and be my friend.

"Ms. Manoban. Or should I say locker buddy?" She playfully shimmied her shoulders.

"How about Lisa?" I said, and it came out harsher than I intended.

"Look," I sighed. "I'm here for education, not to make friends. It's nothing personal, really, but I'm not planning on making any friends, okay?"

Jennie nodded. I could feel her stare as I rolled away.

Home now, my mom had put me in bed and changed my clothes. I had my phone in my hand as she put my blanket on, asking me questions about school.

"Meet anyone?"

"I met this girl. Her name was Jennie " I shrugged.

"Was she nice?"

"Yeah."

"Promise me you'll make at least one friend, please Lisa."

"Mom," I sighed.

"Please?" She kissed my forehead and turned off the lights, the room now lit by the TV only. "Good night, love you."

"Love you too, mom."

When she walked out, I closed my eyes, blocking out the background sound from my tv. School was... okay, I guess. The best part of it was honestly Jennie.

I feel bad for turning her down, she looked devastated, but I had to. Maybe I didn't. I don't know, but I do know that I am looking forward to seeing her tomorrow, even if I did tell her to stay away. Who knows, maybe she'll talk to me again.
