Starting Out

Sitting in her screened in porch as the sun started to rise, 25 year old Jacelyn sips her morning tea as she reads the newspaper. The birds were busy fluttering around, chirping and singing their morning songs. The grass was a vibrant green, with drops of dew sitting on the blades. As she looked up to watch a pair of squirrels chasing each other up and down of a tree, she caught a glimpse of the sunrise.

"Oh that is stunning!" she says to herself in a joyful tone as she reaches for her camera; taking multiple pictures of the sunrise, birds, and squirrels.

Jacelyn not only had a love for nursing, but she also had a love for nature and photography. Going to the west coast to visit and touch the Pacific Ocean with her own feet was a life goal for her. It empowered her to find a job soon so she could start saving up for a vacation.

7am comes around and she hears rumbles through her four bedroom home, and instantly she caught a case of the giggles. Her cats were on their morning routine of chasing each other through the house after they have had their breakfast. She decides to sneak in to catch some pictures of them in action, which amused her greatly when she replayed them back on the display.

Some would wonder why one person needs a four bedroom home. Jacelyn was single and had no children, so she didn't exactly need three extra bedrooms. But the house came at the perfect time. It was in a great neighborhood, very safe and had its own security. She had picked that city to live in because of the job demand, and the house was for sale. She started working at 14 as a babysitter to save up for a home to buy. Even through high school, she would work one or two jobs to save up for her dream of owning her own home before she turned 30. She met her goal, even though some of her friends said she was nuts for buying a four bedroom house. She had her reasons, and two of those reasons made sense. She needed an office for her college work and photography, so one bedroom was dedicated to that. The other reason was because she had a niece and nephew that would come for weekend visits, and she wanted them to have their own room at her house. Not to mention if family or friends decided to come for a visit. The price was definitely affordable.

Now that high school, college, and buying a house was complete, her next mission was to find a job. A career. For the last month she has been putting in applications and submitting resumes, and a morning routine of checking her email and checking off which possible positions were on her "call list" for that day.

But first, breakfast. She decided on an egg white omelette with tomatoes, green peppers, onions, and cheese. As she sat down at the dining room table to eat her meal, she receives an email on her phone for a position through one of the job search websites.

"Looking to fill a position for an LPN or RN. Private doctor office. Insurance and benefits included. Please fill out the application attached and submit your resume."

Jacelyn's eyes lit up a bit as she read through the email a second time while finishing her breakfast and morning whey protein drink. Usually after her breakfast and her morning routine she goes for a 2.5 mike run. Some days she will skip the run and do something different, maybe yoga. It all depended on what she felt like that day. As she finished up her breakfast, she went to the kitchen to wash off her plate and load it in the dishwasher along with the other dishes.

"Should I go for a run, or stay home and do some yoga?" she said to one of her cats, who was busy rubbing up against her legs, meowing for her morning treats. "I know, Jade, you're starving so much because you haven't had your treats!" she said in a giggling voice. She reaches up into the cat-proof cupboard to get the treats down, which sparks her other cat to come running full force into the kitchen. "Can't forget about you, either, Miss Destiny!" She grabs a handful of treats and sits down on the floor, splitting the treats in half for both cats.

"Should I apply for that job I was just notified about?" she says, admittedly to her cats but generally talking. The cats don't pay attention to her which makes her laugh. "I know, you're busy eating your treats, I'm invisible to you two spoiled princesses." She gives them both a gentle pet on the head before standing up to put the bag of treats away. Something is nagging her instinctively to apply for that job. She grabs another cup of tea and heads for her office.

Checking through her email on her laptop, she reads through it again, although it is brief. Clicking the link  to apply for the position reveals who is in need of a nurse. The office of Dr. Williams. A quick internet search of this doctor is needed before she applies. If she's going to apply for a position with a private practice, she wants to know exactly who this doctor is, what his ratings are, where he went to school and residency, how long he has been a doctor, and any malpractice issues. To her surprise, he is one of the top 10 rated doctors in the city. Why would he need a nurse? Surely he has a good staff already. Either way, she fills out the application and submits her resume.

"For some reason I have a good gut feeling about this" she thinks to herself. She continues to follow up on other positions she's applied for before moving on to do some yoga. She decides to take the day as it goes and enjoy it, letting what comes around happen and going with the flow.
