The Girl (And The Girl Who Loved Her)

I saw a girl once

with chocolate eyes

and limbs stretched everywhere.

And I had yet to know

this rambunctious, ecstatic girl at all.

But she saw me with the boy

that everyone had falling for.

And thought I was cool.

And then I could never have imagined

how far one could fall

for the girl with a laugh

like a sun-ray

and hands with lines

like a time traveller.

We officially met at a band competition

and when we performed

I noticed her standing behind me

on the field, with a multi color flag

twirling in spinning edges

and blurred movements.

And when she smiled at me after

with a kind of smile

I wasn’t used to

all giddy excitement and teeth.

I smiled back

with nerves and confusion

because, who was this girl?

And why did my stomach

feel like it was full of butterflies?

When the competition was over

all sorts of words

spilled from my lips

and talking to this girl was

so very easy.

Like childsplay

to laugh and smile

with this girl

that I barely knew the name of.

This girl had a

head filled with

curse words and dirty jokes

but a mind full of

sunshine and adventures.

And I learned over time

that the smile of lines and laughter

hid the cracks in her composure.

I began to read the lies she told

from her eyes

and how to tell

when she was nervous

by how her hands shake.

And when she smile,

I would smile.

But when she laughed

the happiness she felt

spread like wildfire

around her.

The girl

she laughed at all my jokes
