It was hell. He sat in the backseat wondering where it all went wrong while Taehyung blasted the radio in order to cut through the icy atmosphere.
"So... how's work?" Having had enough of the silence, the silver haired boy broke it. He took a nervous glance in the mirror only to find that cold expression glued to Namjoon's face. He kept his eyes on the road.
"Just cut the crap, Tae. Tell me why he wants to see me" His voice almost, almost broke in the end. Taehyung was no stranger to the relationship between Jungkook and Namjoon. He was no stranger to the incidents occuring either.
"I'm sorry but I think you already know. I'm not allowed to say it, company policies" It broke Taehyung to say those few words but he knew it was for the best.
Namjoon made a 'tsk' sound and sunk deeper into the lush leather seats. He wanted to yell at him, blame him for everything but he knew it would only be childish to do so. After a few deep breaths, he could compose himself and form decent words.
"How-How's Jimin?" A smile lit up on the younger's face at the mention of his lover's name. He was more than eager to talk about his beautiful boyfriend.
"He's very good. SM Town hired him after they fired us" Namjoon quirked an eyebrow at that.
"They're okay with your relationship?"
"Yeah...totally. Just asked us to lay low, you know?" Namjoon just nodded and stared off at the tall buildings which vanished as soon as they came. It reminded him of his time with Jungkook.
He was happy for Taehyung and Jimin, no question. However, a part of him was envious. Jimin, the amazing young idol who had recently just debuted. Taehyung, a backstage staff for Jungkook. Nobody knew how it happened but it just did. They got caught by the make-up artist while showing mere gestures of affection.
Both were fired immediately since they refused to end their alliance which had grown immensely in the span of just a few months. Jungkook hired Taehyung as his private chauffeur and paid him a hefty salary just to have him around. It was evident that their love story had had a great impact on Jungkook.
After the seemingly long drive, Taehyung pulled up in the driveway of a way too familiar building. They walked around to another subsection of the place and through the tunnel. Seoul Stadium had been the ideal spot due to it's proximal distance from Bighit Entertainment's company building.
The two walked for ten minutes then finally emerged from the tunnel to stare at the gargantuan Seoul Stadium. Namjoon let out a breath that he didn't realize he was holding.
He followed Taehyung through to the hallway and then, finally, the backstage. Nobody dared to speak a word.
As soon as he entered, he could see a couch on the left side of the room with a mirror and chair on his right. A petite, rosy-cheeked girl sat on the couch staring at nothing in particular and nervously tapping her foot. He knew who she was almost instantly.
"Ah, Sohyun-ssi...." Namjoon didn't hear what Taehyung said next as he put all his concentration on the voice coming from the stage right in front of them. Only a wall separated them. There was a door on the left side of the room which directly led to the main stage.
"....They are the reason why I'm here today, in front of all of you. I cannot even begin to describe what this person means to me but I can only say that I've been anything but fair to them. But tonight I'll make everything right, I want the world to know, to see the person I love more than my existence itself."
It was, without a doubt, Jungkook's voice. He could recognize it anywhere, crammed in the crowds, deep under the water, high up in space.
He gulped at the realization. Up until then, he thought it was all a bad dream, he hoped he would wake up with Jungkook right in his arms where he belongs. But as he watched the girl smile ever so slightly at the words that his lover spoke, he knew it was finally the end.
He was broken out of the stupor by Taehyung who had been calling for him for a long time.
"Hyung? Hyung! Are you okay?" Fear was evident in both his face and voice. Namjoon nodded and took a seat on the other side of the couch. Jungkook's voice soothed his thumping heart even though his words stabbed at it every time.
Taehyung talked on his phone with someone of apparent authority because when he hung up, his face was serious.
"Sohyun-ssi, manager-nim is calling for you. Now!" Jimin barged in shouting the words, panic-stricken as heck. The oddness of his presence was replaced by Taehyung shouting as well.
"Yes, we need to get you to the stage from out there"
Namjoon's blood ran cold, it was happening. Jungkook would introduce to the world his lover, Sohyun. The tears ran down his cheeks without warning, he choked out a sob. Taehyung looked at him but shifted his attention to Sohyun.
"But aren't I supposed to go from the backstage....Kookie is about to call me out..." Namjoon flinched at the nickname sobbing even harder.
The other two males in the room escorted the only female out as she hesitated but instantly locked the door.
"...And now, I would like to call on stage the person this night is dedicated to."
Jimin and Taehyung looked at each other before nodding in sync. Furious knocking could be heard from inside. They grabbed Namjoon, who was oblivious to the episode taking place in the room and dragged him to the door to the stage. It was then that he realized that nothing covered the opening, he could see Jungkook sitting in the middle of the spotlights and the stage, looking ethereal as ever.
For a moment he thought the world had stopped once again, the air froze around him and time became unreal. Jungkook smiled at him in hopes of calming him down.
I don't give a fuck, I'm not giving up, I still want it all
"Come up here, hyung" His smile never faltered and it was like Namjoon's apartment all over again.
Namjoon was frozen completely until Taehyung sighed and shoved him into the stage. He was out in the open, looking like a fucking deer caught in the headlights.
He gulped for what seemed like the thousandth time that day. The steps he took were painfully slow for Jungkook so he stood up himself. Catching up to Namjoon halfway through the stage, he joined their hands together. What he did next left the crowd gasping and a silence followed next.
He captured Namjoon's lips in a liplock so sweet that it wiped away all the bitterness between them. He then wiped the tear stains with his free hand and walked to the middle of the stage with him.
It finally registered on Namjoon's mind that maybe his IQ of 148 had failed him, caused him to almost sink their love affair as well. He knew he should've put a bit of faith in what was soon to be a three year old relationship. He should've put his trust in the words of the younger whenever he said that they were going to have a future.
Blinking back more tears, he stared at the massive crowd of hundreds of thousands of people in front of them.
"I'm sorry" He whispered only for them to hear, not that he cared about anyone else hearing it anymore. Nothing mattered anymore, it was just them and their hearts beating too loud inside their chests.
"It's my fault, hyung. Don't be sorry. Let's do this now, shall we?" He tilted his head slightly with a playful smile. It soared Namjoon's heart to even think of all the time they had before them. Funny, how he thought it was the end when it was just the intro of something so beautiful that it would leave the world in awe.
They stood on the stage together, hands never leaving each other's, words getting caught up in their throats ever so often, taking loving glances at each other every once in a while as they shared their story with the world. He remembers thinking how much of a fool Jungkook was to put his career on the line, but then again, he was a fool for Jungkook as well.
