A humid and cool breeze ruffled the leaves. This was the land between Merope, Asteria and Cirices. The land where the Tarabians roamed freely, without being invaded by others. An unnatural sound punctuated the gentle breeze. It sent a strong wind and a roaring noise. It was a helicopter, one that belonged to Merope. The tree tops swayed. A raccoon darted away. A dove and its family flew off.
Abigail lay curled up on the helicopter floor. Magda rested next to her, her chipped nails clinging to the floor and her black hair splayed over the floor and Abigail’s torso. Sara sat, wild eyed and breathless at the pilots' seat. Lokeyia was guiding her. Well, she was meant to be helping Sara, but instead she lay half asleep in her seat.
Noctus flicked his black tail. Jade pawed slightly at the floor. Mervis snorted slightly. The silence, nonetheless hurt listening ears. Though there were still those signs of life.
Lokeyia partly awoke from her daze.
“Sara, can you open the window.”
Sara nodded. The window opened and Lokeyia sniffed the air.
“Not good. Rain is coming.” Lokeyia sighed.
“Actually, this helicopter is very good at weather interpretation. A storm is coming.” Sara said.
“Certainly not good.”
“Wake Gail. We will need her help. I cannot do this without her.”
Lokeyia bent over Abigail.
“Wake up, Gail. A storm is coming.”
Lokeyia’s long blonde hair tickled Abigail's face. She brushed it away, only to find Magda’s hair splayed over her torso. Abigail frowned at Magda and gently pushed her head away. This caused Magda to awake. Lokeyia laughed.
“Thanks Gail, I was just about to do that.”
Abigail rushed over to Sara.
“Bad news, my friend. Storm coming.”
“Yes.” Abigail sighed.
“We will need your help. I will need your help.” Sara said.
“Anyway your flying time is over. My rest time is over. I've got to start again.”
It was just pure luck that they still were in the air, suspended countless metres above the earth. Well, pure luck that they were still alive. Abigail, Magda, Lokeyia and Sara had snuck into Merope a few days ago and yesterday they had escaped. Which was more than dangerous. They had stolen one of Merope’s helicopters. And had used a speedboat to outrun the guards and police. They had exploded an area which was one hundred metres away from the city square. They had made Merope the laughing stock of the century. But by doing that, they had also blown themselves on the top of their kill list and now had a large price of 70,000 Meropian dollars on their heads.
It was pure luck, or maybe pure skill, that four teenagers could do all that alone.
