Albus stared out the window, his head propped on up his hand, breath fogging up the glass, emerald eyes glazed over with boredom. It was the first snow of the winter, the white flakes slowly painting the once bright green grounds a soft white. Frost bordered the windows and even filled some of the cracks in the walls in the Slytherin common room, down in the dungeons where the cold weather hit hardest. The entire castle was well below sixty degrees, being warmed only by the torches on the walls and fire in the grates. Students could be seen traveling in packs, huddled together for warmth, scarves tucked snugly around their necks, some with earmuffs enchanted to block out all cold and sound, or floating jam jars containing startlingly blue flames that could be held too warm frozen hands.

Albus felt a sharp but brief pain in his ribs and turned his head to see Scorpius fixing him with a disapproving stare. "If you haven't noticed everyone is gone, class is over, you daydreamed right through history. Congrats." His voice was stern but a playfulness lingered in the air even after he finished speaking. Albus glanced around, before fixing his gaze back on his friend, who was, of course, correct. The last of the students had left the classroom and professor Binns, finally looking up from his notes, turned and glided right through the chalkboard leaving the two boys alone in the History of Magic classroom.

Albus pulled himself to his feet rolling his eyes at his friend. "I don't suppose you could have told me sooner?" Scorpius looked at him as if he was being completely unreasonable.

"I was trying to finish my notes, you know we have finals when we get back from break right? Don't let me forget to make a copy of those apparently unimportant notes for you, you're gonna need them." the white-blond boy said, grinning. Albus put on a hurt face, gasping for extra effect.

"That is so insulting my friend, I intend to fly by these exams, piece of cake in fact!"' It was Scorpius' turn to roll his eyes now. Albus laughed, grabbing the unused ink and quill of his desk. and shoving them into his grey messenger style bag, and together they made their way towards the great hall; the only room in the castle that did not feel below freezing, to eat lunch.

After a filling meal consisting of steak and kidney pie followed by pudding and treacle tarts and an important discussion on the rules of a muggle game called football. "What do we have next Scorp?"Albus said as the last of the food vanished off the table leaving only clean sparkling dishes.

"Uum, double Divination, but we have thirty minutes before we have to be there. Albus groaned and slumped forwards, his head in his arms.

"I hate Divination, all she does is tell me cursed for life, and that won't live up to my father, that class drives me insane two times over" Scorpius chuckled lightly, brushing his white-blond hair out of his ashen eyes and rose to his feet, straightening his green and silver tie as he went, looking remarkably like a businessman from muggle commercials.

"But, you and your father are friends now right? I thought you were excited to see him for the holidays." Albus rose next to his friend and slung his bag over his shoulder.

" I am, and yes we are, anyway, what do you want to do until class?"

"LIbrary?"

"Library."

"Look in your crystal balls children, find the calm in the center of the storm and tell your partner what becomes when they touch the ball. You will be reading fates." Albus rolled his eyes pointedly, which caused them to get slightly watery. The room was so heavily perfumed with candle smoke and the smell of cooking sherry Professor Trelawney seemed to carry with her wherever she went, it was hard to breathe.
