"Loneliness burns in towers of fire around us."

The silver gun in my hand shined underneath the pole light as I watched this man take his last breath. A man that probably had a life worth living; a good paying job, a family that loved him and friends that cared. This only made me hate him more though I didn’t even know him.
The only people that claimed they cared the slightest bit was the people who sent me to do this job. I knew it was a lie; if they cared then they wouldn't have made me do such a thing. Not that I ever objected, hell, it was money in my pocket.
I never favored taking the life of another, but I had taken so many, it didn't even matter anymore.
It never mattered what they done; if I was told to murder a certain person, I had to do it. If I didn't, I paid a price.
The boss never told me why I was killing that person, and I was never stupid enough to question him. I had watched many of us die because of such ignorance. A gun straight to their head, but most of us had learned by now.
I had never killed children, but I had taken lives of women. I cringed at that thought but if it had to be done, I did it. I wasn't completely heartless, but I never cared much either.
Why care about yourself when no one else does?
"Harry, let's go!" I heard Dave yell. I pushed the gun into my back pocket as I took back off down the small alley.
David; oh, wasn't he a catch. He was the definition of the word: Asshole. He always tried to boss everyone around, especially me. But if we were in front of the big cheese he acted as if he was the nicest person in town. Maybe because if he knew that he didn't, he would be killed instantly.
No one knew his last name; no one except the boss. He never gives our information out to one another, even if it is our last name. Just because we couldn't trust each other, unless we were on the same mission. Then, trusting was a have too.
I looked at my watch; 5am. Light was staring to shine in the sky as time just seemed to keep moving on.
I climbed into the car quickly as David pressed his foot on the gas, just about wrecking into another car behind us. They blew their horn as Dave let down on his. After we were on the highway, his rant started.
"We could have gotten caught, Harry. Fucking caught, and you're over there smirking like something stupid!" He yelled. I rolled my eyes as nothing he said ever appealed to me.
"No, you would have gotten caught. You're the one with the getaway car," I pointed out.
"You don't think I wouldn't have ratted you out too? Ha!" He fake laughed in complete disbelief.
"You don't think I wouldn't have ran? It's not the first time, and damn sure won't be the last." I hissed. He was about to start again when my phone started to go off. I heard Dave curse silently underneath his breath as I pushed the green button to talk. I didn't recognize the number, which was odd.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Is this, Harry?" A male voice asked on the other end.
"Um..." I trailed off. Should I tell a stranger my name? No, of course not.
"I'll take that as a yeah. Listen, I have something you might want to know." He spoke again.
"What is it?" I snapped. I hated talking over the phone; I felt as if everyone could hear me, especially the loud ass beside of me.
