Annabel Barakat was a true mystery. She smelled like rain and coffee, cinnamon and books, cream and sugar as she would walk down the halls catching attention of her peers.
They watched as she held her book in one hand, A collection of Poe and in the other a fresh mug of passion fruit tea. Their eyes followed her as she sat alone in the back of the library, invisible to the people around her.
Her long pale legs showing under a black skirt. And a white tee shirt to contrast.
Her fingers gently flipped the delicate pages as she read each word, memorizing them to the sound of the soft yet loud music playing into her ears.
Her eye lids soon felt heavier and heavier so she forced herself off the ground and into the arms of her older brother Jack who always seemed to be around at the right time.
He picked her up and cradled her small body in her arms watching as she clutched the book and the empty mug to her chest.
Close behind stood Alex. His brown hair and pale while tan skin was a mere filled canvas. He watched as she was sat in the backseat of the car, slowly following and getting in next to her.
She smelled of alcohol and cigarettes.
