I woke up, still in the back of the van, listening to someone humming. I was lying on my back and all I could see was the plain roof of the van with specks of light shining. I quietly rolled over to see who else was in the van, but my body was too weak. I was almost on my side when my body gave out and I dropped onto my back. I turned my head to my right and saw Nixon sitting up with his back leaning against a shelf. "Oh good! You're awake!" Nixon bent over and grabbed my hand.
"Where are we?" I looked in his eyes to see that he had been crying before I woke up.
"We are in Puebla, Mexico." I looked at Nixon in shock and suddenly gained my strength, and sat up abruptly.
"What? Mexico! That's not even legal! How could they do that? I don't even have a passport! The government won't even let me leave the state! I don't understand! And how are you so calm? You don't get it do you! Our daughter is suffering in a hospital right now and all you do is sit here and tell me 'Everything's okay! Nothing will happen!' Well guess what! Our daughter is dying right now and we are stuck here in Mexico! Not able to do anything! What do you think of that?" Nixon blinked his eyes at me and let go of my hand.
"There is nothing we can do right now. I know who kidnapped us and why. The question is, what do we have to do to get out."
"Who kidnapped us?" I turned to face the front of the van to see that no one was there, but I noticed that it was sunny outside.
"Jerry and Cline. They used to work for the training camp I went to, but got fired for letting me go."
"So why do they want you now? After they got fired. And why did they take me?" Nixon reached for my hand again, but I pulled it back from him.
"They need me to finish a job. I'm not sure what it is, but they also need you to make sure that the job finishes smoothly. If you're not here and if you didn't know about it, you could have ruined the whole thing, by sending a search out for me or trying to find me yourself. You could have hurt yourself, Dalilah, and possibly, you could have killed me."
"What's going to happen to Dalilah?" I rubbed my arm where the IV ripped out and the dry blood was cracking.
"I don't know. It really depends on the job. But most likely she will be safe." I nodded my head and looked back down to my arm. I began to scrape a little bit of dried blood off of my arm when I thought of where Jerry and Cline might be. "So, where's Jerry and Cline?" I questioned Nixon, not looking at him.
"They are in the bar. Probably trying to hustle money from the locals. Cline looks Mexican so no one questions them. The money wil probably be used to buy more alcohol, but you never know with Cline and Jerry." Just as Nixon finished the sentence Cline climbed into the driver's seat and threw a wad of money into the passenger's seat. Jerry climbed in the seat and shoved the money into his pocket. "What did I tell you?" Nixon whispered to me. I giggled a little too loudly and Cline turned around. "Shut up! Do you want to go night night again?" Nixon and I shook our heads and Cline turned back around in his seat. "Alright. Let's go to the motel now." I looked at Nixon and we both swallowed. This was not going to end well.
