A/N

OK, sorry for the slow updates, but since I combined 2 chapters into one (it was an accident. haha) I decided that I didn't need to update until last friday, but I wasn't able to get to it (senior boards are like...... a week and 2 days away :'( and i'm stressed haha) So, yeah.

Sit back and enjoy the chapters.

Zaida POV

The first half of the school day was ok. Everything kind of flew by, turned in all of my assignments, and passed a pop quiz. All was good in my little world.

But, lunch period, on the other hand was…Well, it was a pain in my arsenal, putting it lightly. I don’t understand how my sister and her little Pretty Girl Posse get away with just about every little freaking thing. It all started right after Taylor picked me up from my fourth period.

“Hey, Zaid. How was class?” Taylor asked as I fell into step with him. Zaid was the little nickname he gave me because he said I remind him of some kid he knew back before he moved from Seattle. He said that we both had the same eyes and face. And he instantly knew I was going to be his friend.

“We’re like soul-mates,” he once told me. “But the best friend kind.”

He always joked about how he could never date me. He said we’re friends to the core, but there was no dating potential in our relationship.

“Trust me, Zaid,” Taylor joked, pushing his hands into the air in front of him. “You know way too much about my personal life.”

Nothing about Taylor was like any other guy, or even girl, I’d ever met. It was like he thoroughly understood me. He got me in a way no one else could even begin to understand. That’s why our relationship is that much stronger than the one I have with anyone else.

Especially Tessa.

“Woo-hoo, Earth to Zaid. Do you read me Zaid?” I laughed a little and apologized for spacing out. But Taylor just shook his head and told me it was cool.

“Have you seen Tess?” I asked on a whim.

“Um...,” Taylor tapped his chin, rubbing his nonexistent beard hair. Then a light bulb blew in his head, and he snapped his fingers. “The last time I saw her was when she passed the door of my Chinese Lit class.”

I shook my head.

“Taylor, I don’t understand what you see in Chinese women.”

“They are stunning. Especially Ms. Chen, she’s a beauty!” Taylor’s been drooling over Ms. Chen since day one at this school. And he’s miraculously gotten into one of her classes every single semester without trouble.

“Well whatever floats your boat, lover boy.” When we turned the corner, I saw Brooke, the second member of the Tessa’s Pretty Girl Posse, standing near the doors of the cafeteria with her arms across her chest. She was tall and blond. Just about every kid here did what she said. Because not only was she ‘pretty’ but she is also a total butt-kicking machine. And most people just don’t really want to mix with her.

I am one of those people.

“Hey, Tay,” I whispered in Taylor’s ear as he punched something into his phone. “Let’s take a detour. What do you say?” My legs shook as we got closer to the doors and Brooke

“Come on dude,” I pressed on. “We can totally make it to John & Jon’s and back before the bell rings.” I crossed my fingers, hoping he wouldn’t look up. And to my surprise, he didn’t. He just nodded in agreement.
