Chapter 7- Ants on a Log and Chocolate Milk

Zaida's POV

"Omg, you didn't, Zaid!" Taylor said, amusement playing across his lips. I nodded smugly.

"Oh, yes I did. AND three of the most popular girls in the school were standing right there too!" Taylor and I laughed until tears rolled down our cheeks. "Tay, the look on her face was priceless, yo!"

Taylor and I were walking to my house. This quickly becomes the regular whenever he wrecks his car or gets it taken. Once we reached the back door of my house, I unlock it, and we open the door to the kitchen.

The first thing we did, just like any other day, car or not, we raided the fridge for something quick to whip up. We ended up having celery, peanut butter, raisins, chocolate syrup and a jug of milk. Taylor took the food out of my arms and I grabbed a few spoons and glasses and we marched up to my room, almost undisturbed.

Keyword: Almost.

Sadly, Mom had company over today, whom all of which believed Taylor and I were dating. But Mom never seemed to correct them. Instead she just smiled and asked us how our day was then told us to get our homework done.

Once we were finally able to stumble through my bedroom door, Taylor glared viciously at me.

"What?"

"Don't what me." I shrug, saying,

"Ok, so I forgot today was Mom's late afternoon tea social, no biggie. I'm used to it."  Taylor grins and plops into his default seat, the blue bean bag chair beside my favorite purple plush chair.

"Well, it doesn't matter anyway. Cause we've got..."

"Ants on the log and chocolate milk!!!" We both sang, simultaneously. We both crack up laughing. This was our favorite food to share.

I mean, yeah, it's totally little kid, but we became best friends through this!

I can remember it clear as day. Dad and I were in the car going to the store to get me some more grapefruit since I ran out.

"Ooh, look at the little Orange car, Daddy!" I screamed excitedly as I pointed to the parked Orange car in the lot of Shoppers. Much to Dad's dismay, I was determined to talk to the owner of the car. Right after he parked, I was the first one out of the car, and was racing towards it. Sure to the tunnel vision caused by my obsession with the wonderful car, I couldn't see the man who was stepping around the corner and slammed right into him. I landed on the floor, butt first. I got up quickly, shaking the dust of. Being the little girl I was, I also dusted the nice man's blazer off before bowing.

"Excuse me. I am so very sorry sir. I was in a hurry to see that nice looking orange car right over there. And I didn't see you. I apologize very much, mister."

I typed my head, in confusion, to the side when the man began to laugh.

"Well, how about I show you my car?" Just at that moment, someone was stepping behind me. My Dad out his hand on my shoulder.

"I am so very sorry about that, Mr. O'Brien. My daughter is a little excited is all."

"Is this your little bundle of joy you've spoken of so much over the phone?"

"Yes, this is one of them." Mr father looked down at me, smiling. "Zaida, tell Mr. O'Brien hello."

I gave a little shy wave, just before asking,

"Is that your Orange car?"

"Why, yes it is, princess. And I can show it to you, if your father here wouldn't mind."

"Ooh, yes, please!" I tugged at Dad's shirt tail. "Daddy, please, please, can I please?" After laughing for a few seconds, he said yes.

"Alright then, it's settled! To the car we go!" Just then, I saw someone shift behind Mr. O'Brien's legs.

"Oops, I admit forgot you was standing there, bud." Mr. O'Brien stepped to the side revealing a quote shy looking child who was too skinny for his own good.

"Say hello, chap." The boy shifted once more before stepping forward and extending his hand out to my father and I.

"Hello, my name is Taylor El Champion O'Brien. It's a pleasure to meet you." The look in his eyes had me a little mesmerized. He had very pretty blue eyes that were inviting. Though he was shaking my father's hand, his eyes were glued to mines.

I smiled brightly.

"Hi, I'm Zaida Maria O'Connor." I said, the smile still plastered on my face.

"Well, you two are seeming to get along well. How about we go to the park for a while."

And we did just that. While we were there, Taylor's father puked out a jar of peanut butter, a few sticks of celery, and a jug of chocolate milk.

"Well, it's just normally me and Champion, and we only have three....." and before he was finished talking, Taylor snapped his ants on the log in half, handing a piece to me.

"Zaida, are your even listening to me?" Taylor's distant voice asked. I shook away the memory to get back to the real world.

"Umm, sorry, what was that?" Taylor grinned knowingly.

"You went back didn't you," he asked. I nodded in response, to lost for words to even make a little noise.

Taylor touched my shoulder and smiled.

"That was a great day, wasn't  it?" I nodded again, still unable to form actual words.

In that fateful day, Taylor and I created an unbreakable bond and no-one can break it.

Ever.
