Your face contorted as you saw the number displayed on the dice, as the four boys burst out into laughter.
"Bleeeeeh," you groaned, keeping a good-sport-smile on your face as the others tried to control their laughter. You began to laugh at the same time, leaning back in your chair as you flicked your game piece off of the game board, signaling your dumb move, and death.
You loved playing D&D with Mike, Lucas, your brother Dustin, and especially, Will.
Will and you weren't a couple, he didn't even know of your feelings for him, but you desperately wished for it to be a reality. You had planned to tell him, but soon just seemed...too soon...
You leaned back in your chair, folding your arms across your chest and keeping your smile on your face as you watched the boys continue to play.
You looked at your watch, and snapped your fingers at Dustin, catching his attention.
"We have about thirty more minutes Dusty," you said as he whined.
"Already?" he said, and you nodded, as he quickly turned back to the board. "Ok then guys, let's book. We gotta get this chapter done tonight."
You leaned back and observed Will from where you were, and luckily, he was too absorbed in the game to notice you staring at him so intently. You took in a breath and convinced yourself to look away, trying to clear your head and not be distracted.
You looked out of the basement window, watching as the trees blew in the wind outside, thinking about anything and everything to try and clear your head before you went home. You looked back over at Will, who was still absorbed, and suddenly, a feeling began to rise in your chest that was something other than what you had been feeling before.
Am I being watched...?
You looked around you, discreetly, of course, and tried to find the source of what you were feeling, but nothing arose that was out of the ordinary. You shook your head and pushed the thoughts out of your mind and leaned back in your chair, watching as the boys continued to play, enjoying themselves.
You looked over at Will for the third time, but this time, he felt your gaze and looked back at you, his brown gaze looking deep into yours, confusion hinted behind it on his side. You couldn't force yourself to break the awkward stare; you felt frozen almost. You swallowed, and a small, embarrassed smile grew on his face.
"Sorry y/n," he said softly. I didn't mean to upset you."
"You didn't," you said before you could stop yourself. "I was just...thinking." He tilted his head at you.
"Thinking?" He said. "About what?"
"You," you said, again before you could regain control of your own mouth. A shade of red instantly spread across your face, and he was not far behind you.
"Me?" He said with slight hesitation. "You were...thinking about me?" He sounded confused now. "Why? Did I...do something wrong?"
"No, I just..." You faltered again, already feeling awkward and knowing if you opened your mouth again it was going to get worse. You swallowed uncomfortably again, and looked down at your lap.
"Not the time?" He said softly as you nodded. He seemed to understand, right? I mean...he wasn't stupid...
"Dustin," You blurted out as you finally remembered to look at your watch. "We gotta go or we'll miss curfew."
"Aww," Dustin whined, but he grabbed his backpack and threw it over his shoulder, standing up from his chair as the atmosphere in the room became less tense. He quickly ran up the stairs after saying a quick goodbye to his friends, and hollered down the stairs that he'd wait up for you.
