"I'm sorry," I say closing the photo album and placing it on the coffee table. "I-I just-"
"Hey, don't worry about it. There's no need to stress over it. You simply don't remember me. So what? You're here now and that's all that matters to me," Oliver says sitting next to me. He put his arm around my shoulder and I feel my heart rate picking up. I scoot over to the edge of the couch and give him an awkward smile.
"Let's get out of here, it's still Friday night and we're just sitting around ."
"Any ideas?" I ask.
"Well... what were you planning on doing after school?" He says getting up. He coughs.
"I was gonna go to this party but it's better if we don't."
"A party! perfect!" He says, his eyes lighting up.
"Oliver, we really shouldn't."
"Aw c'mon Jade! This will be fun! besides I'll be there with you, and as soon as you want to leave I promise we will," He makes puppy dog eyes and there's no way I can say no to that. "Think of it as a reunion for you and me."
"Well... okay, sure."
We get into his truck and I tell him to head over to my house. The car ride is silent. I stare at Oliver most of the time comparing him to the young boy that I have a blurry memory on. Why was he crying that day? He doesn't seem like the type to cry over anything small so it must have been something serious.
The truck comes to a sudden stop snapping be back to reality.
"I won't take long, just going to freshen up," I say and step out the car. He nods.
I take my boots off at the door and step in. My mom walks over to the living room and greets me.
"Hey honey, glad you're home. Do you mind helping me out? I'm painting the bathroom," She says and hands me a paint brush. "Light blue, your favorite."
"Um, actually I was just about to head upstairs to change. I'm going out."
"To where?"
"A party. At Jenna's house."
"With Alice?" She asks putting the paintbrush on the table by the door.
"N-no, with this boy named Oliver. He's a good guy."
Her facial expression turns serious. "Oliver...? Strange."
"Is something wrong?" I ask.
"No no, I'm just glad you're going places besides your room." She laughs.
I head upstairs and change out of my plain red shirt and blue jeans and put on a simple blue dress. I know it's freezing outside but when else will I wear this? Besides, I don't want to embarrass Alice by going as an outcast. I put my coat on and head downstairs.
"Bye mom. I'll be back before midnight."
"Jade," My mom says peeping her head out the bathroom. "Please be care full."
"I will mom." I pull my snow boots back on and head to Oliver's truck.
"Woe, you look great," Oliver says as I step into the truck.
I feel myself blush. "T-thanks."
We drive for about two minutes until we arrive at Jenna's house. Her yard filled with parked cars that continue all the way down her street. I was starting to regret coming.
"Hey, maybe we can just go watch a movie or something," I suggest.
"Aw c'mon! This looks like fun!" Oliver jumps out the car and runs to the front door. I follow close behind.
