About the whole school knows what happened to me, and most of them don't even know me. But for some reason I don't want to tell Oliver, who is probably my best friend right now... and has been for years apparently. It's not that I'm embarrassed. After the people found out, they started acting nice towards me. They pitied me. (Not including Jenna). I don't want Oliver to like me because he's sorry for me, I want him to like me for me. I want him to look at me like I'm normal, not like a puppy left out in the rain.
"Now's not a good time," I say and lean back into the car seat.
"I'm here for you, just know that."
He drives me to my house in a few minutes. Snow is now falling and covering the windshield. I tighten the grip on Oliver's jacket around me.
"Thanks," I say under my breath. I look at the clock that reads ten thirty. "Made it before midnight, my mom would have freaked."
"Midnight? Hmm.. looks like I still have an hour and thirty minutes with you."
"You're silly," I laugh. He has that affect on me. In the little time I've known him, he always seems to help ease my nerves.
"I want to use all the time I was given," he says and turns off the car. "So what do you wanna do?"
"I'm kind of sleepy."
"I would let you go but, what am I gonna do?"
"Well, I'm sure a guy like you has a lot of friends who would love to party with you," I say and put the seat down.
"True, but the only friend I wanna be with right now has always been more of a stay at home kind of girl," He smirks.
"That's unlucky," I smile. We both laugh.
When I open my eyes the sun is shining bright through the window. I wait for the fuzziness to leave my eyes and then look around. This isn't my bed. In fact, this isn't a bed at all.
"Shit. Shit. Shit."
I look at Oliver who is on my side in the back seat of his truck. He's still sleeping.
"Oliver!" I yell. He sits up in a hurry.
"What?" He says sleepily.
"What the heck! Why am I still here?!"
"You uh- you fell asleep."
"I see that. But why am I not in my house?!"
"You're a heavy sleeper, and you're not as light as you look," He says and lays back down.
"Oh no, my mom is going to kill me!" I say and pull on my boots that somehow ended up on the floor.
"Will you relax? You're outside your house and you did nothing but sleep," he says and sits up too.
"How did we get to the back seat?" I say in confusion.
"You fell asleep and I know how uncomfortable that front seat is so I moved us back here. That's how I know how heavy you are," He laughs.
"Not funny. Sorry about that. You should have just pushed me out of your car," I say embarrassed.
"It was no biggie, your a comfy sleeper."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Well since you still have my jacket," He says pointing at it. "I was cold, but you kinda hug things. and yeah..."
"Are you kidding me?! Oh my God," I feel my face turn hot and can only imagine how red it must be. He laughs again.
We step out of the truck and he walks me to the door.
"Good luck in there," He says and hugs me before he leaves.
I open the door and my mom is sitting down, drinking coffee.
"Jade!" She yells and nearly chokes on her drink. "What happened to midnight?! You could've gotten hurt! You- you could've- are you okay?"
"Sorry mom, I'm okay," I say now wrapped in her arms.
"Who's jacket is this?"
I look down and notice Oliver's jacket still on me.
"Oh uh- this is Oliver's, the friend I told you about."
Her face is serious again. Like the last time I mentioned Oliver. There's something she's not telling me, and I'm going to get to the bottom of this.
