Sammi's POV---

We stood in silence after my uncle left. I didn't know if I was supposed to be mad at Brian for taking the NZT or love him more for standing up for us the way he did. I was dumbfounded.

"Sammi, I-"

"Don't Brian, not right now," I said quietly cutting him off.

I was exhausted. Defeated. Afraid. Three things I hated with a passion, all absorbing into me at once with no trap door to exit from. I began clearing the table and cleaning things up, Brian followed in suit and soon the apartment was clean and we sat beside one another on his couch.

"How could you take one before we showed up?" I finally asked.

Brian opened his mouth to answer, but before he could there was a knock on the door. I stood up to get it and Brian wrapped his hand around my wrist, turning me around.

"I'm sorry," was all he said before letting me get the door.

Brian's POV---

Sammi came back from the door standing between the two men I was hoping I'd never have to face again. Her uncle on her right and my father on her left, she walked over and sat beside me once more. The two men sat across from us.

"Brian," my dad began with a sigh. "Is it true? About the body's reaction?"

He had his hands folded in his lap as he sat in a wooden chair with wrinkles on his face. I looked to the floor and nodded my head up and down, affirming my body's addiction. Thr apartment was quiet for a while as the four of us soaked up the silent tension building in us. Finally, my father and Sammi's uncle looked to one another and seemed to come to an agreement just between an exchange of glances. Sammi crossed her hand over the couch and laced her fingers between mine, almost as if she wanted to let me know she forgave me. I held her hand tightly and gave it a squeeze to let her know I was not going to be giving her up any time soon.

"I didn't know-"

"It's ok dad," I said, cutting him off. "I should have been more honest with you. You too Mr.Ford, I never should have invited you into my home with lies as the reason. I should have invited you into my home to show you how much I love and care about your niece and I'm hoping you'll all allow me a chance to make up for some of these mistakes."

"We want you to get help," my father answered. "I love you Brian and you're bright, but I want you to know that too, ok?"

I nodded and then Sammi's uncle handed me a sheet of paper.

"Best chemist on the black market," he said. "Already talked to him, he's working on a cure."

I took the sheet and nodded saying thank you to both men. My father stood up to leave and gave me a hug while Mr.Ford shook my hand saying, "you better take care of my niece." I told him I would and looked to Sammi smiling. After the two men excited, we were alone again.

"I love you," I told her as I turned to face her. "I love you and I know I messed up, but I promise I'm going to treasure you forever." I placed my hands on either side of her face and gave her a gentle kiss.

"I love you too, Brian."
