Falling for Finch

New Secrets

Brian's POV---
"Really?" I asked, breathlessly. "Yeah," Sam said as her eyes measured mine, "really. You asked for a chance, and you've got one, but let's be clear on something," she spoke firmly but with concern as well so I kept my mouth shut hoping not to blow it. "Brian," she continued, "when I say a chance, I mean one and only one. My best friend Parker, she's not gonna like a lot of this, but I like you and I'm willing to risk that to give you this chance, so don't blow it." She smiled a little bit and playfully pushed me. "No pressure" I said smiling and then I took her hand and said, "wanna go to the movies?"

We saw a movie and spent the rest of the day together just really getting to know each other yknow? Things were happening fast, but at their own pace and neither of us rushed into anything. She didn't ask about my work and I didn't ask about hers though our pasts did come up at one point. "So," Sam asked as she ate some french fries we bought off a corner stand. "Was the great Brian Finch always this great?" I laughed a bit as I stole a fry from her hand and said "duh, you don't just get to be this great over night" with a subtle wink. Sam giggled and then I asked her why she decided to move down here which she began to explain hesitantly. "Brian, you know how there are things you said you can't tell me? And I said I was ok with that. Well, the reason I'm ok with that has more to it than the fact that you're incredibly adorable." I gave her a small smile and placed my hand on hers across the table and said "enough said. Maybe one day we'll both be able to sit down and tell each other everything, but I get it, that day's not anytime soon." Sam smiled thinly back at me and leaned over the table to give me a small kiss on the cheek. I leaned over to give her one back, but my phone started blasting before I could reach her face. "You should probably get that" Sam said as I reached into my pocket to answer and repremand whoever was on the other line.

Sam's POV---
Things with Brian were good. No, things with Brian were great. He was just leaning over to kiss me when his phone began ringing. Looking annoyed even after I told him he should answer, he pulled out his phone and did so. I could only hear half of the conversation, but Brian seemed like he was immediately stressed. I was about to place my hand on top of his when my phone also began to ring. "Parker?" I asked as I answered, "you're not supposed to be home for another three days." Parker, my best friend, giggled a bit and said "doesn't mean I can't call you! What are you up to?" I looked at Brian and could tell he would be wrapping up his conversation and I wanted to be able to be there for him when it was over so I quickly came up with an excuse. Telling Parker and bout Brian now would be bad...
"Actually, I'm about to play a set, can I call you in a bit?" I could hear Parker deciding if I was telling the truth or not as she finally said "sure, as long as you're not breaking any of our rules." "I'm not, I promise " I told her as I looked at Brian. He hung up his phone and Parker told me goodbye so I put mine down shortly after. "Everything ok?" I asked Brian now placing my hand on his across the table. "It's my dad. He's not doing too well right now I guess and-" "Brian," I said interrupting him calmly. "Brian, it's ok. And it's gonna be ok. I promise. Go. Go be with him, I understand." Brian squeezed my hand and then whispered "thank you" as he stood up to go. I stood up to and he came around the table to give me a hug and a gentle kiss, "does this make you my girlfriend yet?" He asked. I smiled, gave him a short kiss on the lips, and, looking into his eyes, said "of course Brian Finch. Of course."

After Brian left I took in everything that had happened and realized that I may have made a huge mistake falling for him. Parker made me promise not to do anything like this while she was gone and here I am lying to her already. Technically I wasn't breaking any of our rules, Brian and I hadn't slept together and as far as I know he's a great guy. He has a job, he's honest, he doesn't drink a lot or do drugs, and he treats me well. Parker would be upset, but then, it's not really her choice, right? She wouldn't like the secrets he has, but I have those too so I don't think it's fair to be upset about that. Though I am curious too...Curiosity killed the cat yknow? So maybe I should just let it go.

I got home and called Parker back to make sure everything was ok.
"Hey" I said
"Hey"
"Everything ok?"
"Yeah, I was just calling to check in on you mostly..."
"Mostly?"
"Well, that and to tell you your uncle Nate is coming back."
"......"
"Sam?"
"......"
"It's gonna be fine, ok? He has a couple jobs or something lined up out there and he wants the team to get back and help out and he didn't wanna blindside you."
"Didn't wanna blindside me?! If he didn't wanna do that he could have called himself!" I yelled fanatically.
"I know, I know. But with the way you two left things....Sam, he was nervous. He's trying to be sensitive..."
I took a deep breath before saying anything and then, "thanks for letting me know. I have a lot to think about I guess....I'm sorry, I just....he always does this when I think my life is finally in place yknow? Forget it. I miss him and I miss the job."
"Are you sure you wanna get involved in all of that again? I mean, the rules, you're doing so well and I was really proud of you."
"Parker, you're in the same boat as me, the only difference is that when Nate left you kept doing your job because you could. I had to learn to live again, but now I have that, I know what to do without it. If you think for one second my uncle nate is gonna come home and I'm not gonna be in on the job, then you don't know me at all."
"It's up to you, and I understand, I just think you should consider everything before you make any choices. I'll be home in three days, and Nate's coming with me. Sophie, El, and Hardison are coming up in a few days, but I guess it's all figured out. I don't know much...Nate says he'll explain later, when we're all together again."
"I'll see you in three days then."
And with that our call ended and I suddenly had a lot more on my mind than Brian and my old secrets because now, I'm going to have to worry about Brian and the new ones.

A/N: Sorry this chapter is so short, it's kinda just a build up/ characterization tbing....Hope you guys are enjoying so far and let me know if you have any other fanfic you'd be interested in!
