In the heart of the kingdom of Terrisan, lays the capital city of Orynth. Capped in snow, the town sparkles in white, but none attracts more attention then the castle it's self.
It's marble turrets spike into the low hanging clouds, and the windows glimmer with frost. The castle grounds had a thick blanket of snow covering them, and inside the servants bustle about their tasks in the warm shelter of the walls.
King Rowan Whitehorn Galainthus glares at the pointless white fluff. Sure, his magic was icy, but snow has always seemed so pointless. It just sits there getting in everyone's way.
Acrostic the room, Aelin groans from the bed, stretching. "I don't want to go on a run today, Rowan." She mumbles, wiping the sleep from her turquoise eyes.
"I don't care."
"But Rowan.. its cold."
"Cold and snowy, and I don't care."
The queen bolts up. "Snow?"
Rowan rolls his eyes as she leaps out of bed, wrapping herself in a blanket. Aelin eyes light up as she looks at the glistening jewels of the ice and snow. He can't help but melt at the sight of her so happy.
"Can we walk into town instead?" She says, looking up at him through long eyelashes.
"Fine, fireheart. But you need to dress warmer than that," he says, gesturing to one of her scandalous nightgowns. Aelin scoffs, hitting him lightly on the arm.
"Like you don't like it."
"Never said I didn't. Now go change." Rowan drags his wife into the closet. He shoves several fleecy items at her, and glares at her as she sticks her tongue out at him. "Put them on," he growls.
"Ugg you know what, fine." Aelin tugs the nightgown off, showing her naked body. Oh. Oh. Rowan balks, hurrying out. He hears a slight giggling from inside the closet, along with the rustling of soft, thick, fabrics.
She exits, tugging on her boots a moment later. "Lets go, Rowan."
They leave the castle nodding at various members of the court, guards, and servants. Aelin goes so far as to wave to the final sets of guards at the gates.
The crisp snow crunches under the king and queen's shoes, leaving footprints behind them. In the capital, it was peaceful, everyone smiled and waved. A few of the townspeople came to introduce themselves to the rulers.
"Mmmm...." Aelin mumbles, as the scent of chocolate tickles her nose from inside one of the shops. She drags her mate into the store, and buys a dozen warm chocolates. They pay, and Aelin waves to the worker at the counter, who smiles back, rushing off no doubt to tell his friends in the back.
Rowan snags one of her chocolates, to which she loudly protests with her mouth full, swatting his hand. He laughs, biting into the chocolate.
"Miss Aelin?" A girl of about 6 says, running up to her.
"Yes dear?" The queen says, crouching down.
"Look what I can do!" The girl shouts, squeezing her eyes shut, and holding her hand out. A small flame appears after a moment.
"Wow, you already have really good control over your powers. Better than I did at least," Aelin smiles at the girl, who blushes, before bowing and dashing back to her mom, who smiles gratefully at the queen. As Aelin walks past smiling at the girl, the queen makes a small crown of flames appear on her head.
The girl grins, showing her mother excitedly. "Look mama!" Aelin hears her say as the royal couple walks away.
The queen smiles, munching on her chocolates.
