So, I was really sad after writing "broken queen" so I wanted to do an actual rowaelin reunion scene.
Hope you like!
Aelin Ashryver Galainthus sinks the short dagger she had stolen from Fenrys into the queens heart, her head rolling, which she cut off for good measure.
Maeve's dead body falls atop Carins, and Aelin spits on them.
She was glad they were dead. Them who had tortured, whipped, raped her.
Aelin leaves the dagger atop their dead body's, stumbling out of the palace she had been trapped in. The wards sting against her skin, as she starts running with her little strength.
The sticks and stones tear at the bottoms of her feet, but Aelin could hardly register anything, beside her freedom.
She was free.
And she had saved herself, without the help of Rowan.
Aelin shouts down the bond, and feels her mate stir in response. She had saved herself, but she knew she was on an island. With no ship.
The queen reaches the coast, climbing into a tall tree. Food would be a problem, because she was already weak from hunger. But never the less, she could feel her magic fluttering, free from the iron.
She needed sleep, and it took her continuousness, lulling her into security.
Rowan had to find her.
~
Rowan Whitehorn Galainthus feels a tug down his bond for the first time in months, jolting out of his light sleep.
The king could feel his mate, he could see her in his minds eye, he could smell her. Rowan lunges out of his bead, racing outside without putting on a shirt. he pushes the sails to the left, filling them with a swift wind.
Gavriel stumbles out of his quarters, sword in hand, "gods, Rowan, what's with all the ruckus?" he says, rubbing the sleep out of his eyes.
"Aelin, she, this way." He mumbles.
Gavriel walks back to his cabin, muttering curses at the king, but he didn't care. He was going to find his mate.
And he would never let her go.
~
After 3 days and 3 nights, Aelin jolts awake to the crunching of leaves.
"Aelin!" A voice shouts from below her. She peers over the log she had been sleeping on. Silver hair.
Rowan.
She tumbles out of the tree, and he catches her, millimeters away from the ground.
"Fancy meeting you here, milady."
Aelin grins at him, planting a kiss on his lips. After so long, she was back together with her mate. Her king. Her cannaran.
"Found her!" He roars into the night, voice hoarse from shouting for her. Whoops echo across the sky, like music.
Rowan holds her frail body close to his warmth, encasing her in love. He walks them back to the ship, where Gavriel, Lorcan, and Elide follow shortly after.
