Rita tossed and turned in her bed. Normally she felted safe and at peace wrapped up in the many blankets she kept, Poseidon always curled up at her feet. The small animal lifted its head, crawling closer up to Rita. He brushed his face against her nose, curling up just beneath her chin, nuzzling her in an effort of comfort.
He could feel her scrunch her face up a bit as his fur rubbed against her. One of her hands patted his head and he purred softly. Poseidon curled back up to her, purring contently. she practically radiated warmth.
Rita closed her eyes, despeartely trying to sleep. There was an odd silence, she couldn't hear even the littlest bit of noise from the grotto downstairs. It hurt her a bit, she ahd gotten so used to having company but they had all seemed to move on. Weilan and Ondina were in Shanghai, attempting to renew the eastern pod. Zac was at home, in his own world with Evie and Cam. and of course Narissa. Mimmi had to have been caught up in her relationship with Chris and trying to get to know her mother. The two of them were probably sleeping in mako's moonpool by now. Rita wouldn't know. Mimmi hadn't visited her in a week.
She grabbed a fistful of Poseidon's fur, holding the cat close. She dreared the though of having to get up the next morning to teach the young mermaids. Especially Amaris, she had been acting up lately. Poseidon gave her a final comforting nuzzle, before curling up and resting his head on her neck, making his desire to sleep obvious.
Rita smiled a little bit, and drifted off into a deep sleep. She bgan to tumble into a dream. She was in the ocean, the water surrounding her and filling her with feelings of serenity. It began to bubble up, taking shape. She backed away in fear as the water twitsted and contorted infront of her. Two eyes became apparent through th ocean dark waves, a chill filling her.
there it appeared. The dragon, a large snarling creature, it's eyes focused on her. Her body seemed to be moving in slow motion as she swam hurriedly away from the dragon, the water parting way as she sped through it.
The dragon was behind her, chasing her. She was swimming as fast as she could but the dragon chased her into a moon pool. Her back hit the stone edge as she glanced up in fear. The giant creature emerged above her, a snarl on its lips. This was it, she was going to loose her tail. It leaned closer, sniffing her. It's face appeared to almost be smiling a horrid little grin.
She shot up in bed, gasping for air. Poseidon had jumped up and was starring at her. Rita laid back down, burying her face in the pillow. Her hands were trembling, along with her lips. She was about to cry. Posedion gently curled up to her again, allowing her to pull him into her arms and bury her face in his fur like he was a teddy bear.
Rita fell asleep choking back tears and holding precious little Poseidon. The only thing that had seemed to stay with her since the dragon disappeared. She drifted into a deep sleep, full of nothing. The dragon did not haunt her dreams, just a numb feeling and overwhelming silence.

This is just a little starting bit done in third person POV to introduce the concept, however the rest of the book will be in first person POV. And the next few chapters should be longer as well, I hope it's enjoyable :)
