Flake awoke the next morning to the sound of birds chirping high in the trees. The sun was gleaming into the cave making it burn brightly with light. Flake stood up and shook her fur, today, she was going to begin the journey to find her long-lost brother. She had had a restless night rest, her dreams filled with her brother.

Flake padded out of the cave to see her mother near the stream. Flake's tail drooped, she had been so harsh to her parents, it was unfair of her to leave them without at least apologizing. Flake trotted up to her mother's side and bent down to drink a few droplets out of the stream.

Silver looked at her daughter, she couldn't help but feel pride whelm up inside, "So, you still haven't changed your mind, have you?" She asked trying not to push things over the line. She didn't want another argument, not after what had happened last night.

Flake looked at her mother, her eyes warm with sympathy, "I'm sorry momma, but this is something I got to do." Flake said in a soft steady tone. "I'm sorry I got so mad at you guys last night, I know you were just trying to protect me." She added tearing her gaze from her mother to her paws.

Silver's eyes began to water up, "You will always be my pup, but you were right last night. You can take care of yourself, and me and your father shouldn't have tried to stop you." She finished pushing herself closer to her daughter.

Flake buried her muzzle into her mother's fur, "I love you so much..." She said trying to hold it together. She had to admit though, she was gonna miss her mother's over-protectiveness and her father's short temper. And not to mention the sound of the river flowing at night. She was really gonna miss it all. But her brother is out there, somewhere in the world, and she is determined to find him.

Flake and her mother were sitting outside the den, Silver sharing stories of her brother when Jet padded up with a squirrel dangling in his jaws. "Flake, if you are still going, you'll need to eat."  He spoke dropping the prey at her paws.

Flake sat up and nodded her thanks to her father before bending down and taking a mouthful. She did have to be strong to make the journey witch she would begin at sun high.

Once Flake had finished her fresh kill she looked up at the sky, its almost sun high, she thought to her self as she looked over to see her parents sitting peacefully beside the pile of rocks next to the den. Flake padded over and gave them each a muzzle, "I have to go now," She said trying not to shed a tear, "I'll miss you, and I love you." She added pulling away.

Jet and Silver both pressed their muzzles deep into their daughter's fur, never wanting to forget her sweet scent. "We wish you luck my sweet pup." Her father said bowing his head as a sign of respect.

Silver stood up, tears streaming from her eyes, "Promise me you'll come home, you and your brother, Blake." she begged, wishing her daughter wouldn't leave but knew she couldn't stop her.

Flake looked over her shoulder, no longer holding back any tears, "I promise." She said, but before she could begin the journey she had one question for her parents, "How will I know it's him?" She couldn't help but wonder.

Her father closed his eyes, "It's like a strong pull, it will pull you to your brother, and when your close you guys will gain the ability to communicate, telepathically." He spoke, answering his daughter's last question.

Flake dipped her head in thanks before turning around and padding behind a line of bushes. She leaped over the stream, then gave one glance back over her shoulder, I'm really gonna miss this place, she thought to her self. "But I'll be back, I promised."  She spoke to herself, remembering the words her mother had spoken to her. Flake was good at many things, but one thing she had vowed to herself as a pup, was to keep her promises at any cost.

Flake wondered into unknown territory, the journey has actually begun, she thought to herself. With home a few miles back and the whole world ahead of her, she had no idea where she was going, but she remembered what her father had said, "it's like a strong pull, it will pull you to your brother." She quoted aloud to her self. Flake looked down at her paws, follow my heart, she thought, "If I'm drawn to the moon, then maybe he followed the moon too!" She mumbled to her self, hope fluttering in like a rushing waterfall. She was going to find her brother, but not alone, she would have the moon to guide her.
