Flake Looked around her ears pricked and her tail high, "We have to find him." She said glancing over her shoulder at Tyler who was padding up beside her.
Tyler looked into the woods, "Can you tell where it is coming from?" He asked looking up and down the tree line. Tyler gave Flake a doubtful glance, "Are you sure he is here, I can't hear anything nor anyone." He said pointedly.
Flake nodded "Of course I'm sure, I can hear him, in my head." She said beginning to pad into the forest.
Tyler followed her, his neck fur beginning to rise, "I have a bad feeling." He said keeping hard on Flake's paws as she trotted deeper into the forest.
Flake looked around, Blake are you there? She asked trying to reach her brother telepathically. Flake continued trying to reach out to her brother, squeezing her eyes tightly closed until she heard Tyler yell out to her.
"Flake, Watch out" Tyler shouted.
Flake opened her eyes, but it was too late. She walked straight into a tree. Flake backed up and rubbed her paw on her muzzle to see a gash that was caused by the rough bark on the tree.
Tyler padded up and examined the wound, "Stay here." He said turning on his heels, "I'm gonna go find some chervil for that wound." He said padding away.
Flake just sat down, she knew that there would be no point in arguing with Tyler.
Tyler returned a few minutes later with a mouth full of chervil. He chewed it into a pulp and plastered the would with a thin layer of the poultice.
Flake dipped her head in thanks as she stood up only to have Tyler rest his tail on her shoulder, "We should rest here, it's getting dark" He said pointedly, looking up at the sky.
Flake laid down and curled up, "Good night." She said closing her eyes.
Tyler curled up next to her and listened to the sound of her breathing steady as she went to sleep. Tyler looked around and nearly jumped out of his fur when he heard an owl hoot from the tree above. Tyler gave one last glance around the place before resting his head beside Flake's and letting sleep drown him into its depths.
{Flake's Dream}
Flake awoke in the forest. She stood up and began to pad around the place when she heard her brother's voice, "Flake!" He called out.
Flake glanced around in a whirl, trying to figure out where the voice was coming from. "Blake!" She called out beginning to run to a river that was running rapidly downhill. "Blake!" She called again as she sprang into the water.
Flake reached the other side of the river and climbed out, huffing as she trotted deeper into the woods, "Blake?" She called out again, looking around frantically.
Flake lifted her paw to take a step when she heard a twig snap from behind her. Flake froze, her ears pricked and her fur standing on end. Flake cautiously looked over her shoulder to see a big, brown, black-eyed grizzly standing, right behind her.
Flake spun to face the bear and began to walk back very slowly, Blake, she thought to herself, where are you? Flake backed up another paw step, snapping a twig. The bear swiveled its head to look directly at her. "Uh, oh," Flake said as she spun around and began to sprint.
The bear dropped down on all fours and raced after her.
Flake dashed through the forest, "Blake!" She howled into the trees as she took a sharp right turn, her paws sliding on the mushy ground. Flake gathered her balance and sprang, her heart pounding hard in her chest. Flake looked over her shoulder to see the bear making up the distance, it was gaining on her.
Flake turned to face forward but it was too late, she crashed into a huge pile of brambles, her fur getting caught on its thorns.
She looked at the bear which was drawing closer. Flake began to struggle, frantically trying to break free, "Help!" She called into the forest as she attempted to wrench her paw away from the thorns.
As Flake was struggling, out of nowhere, a shadow appeared, looming over her. Flake slowly turned her head to see the bear reared up behind her. Flake's eye stretch wide in horror, this is it this is the end, she thought herself.
Before she could react a light gray wolf sprang out baring his teeth at the bear, "Get out of here." He snarled at the beast.
The bear let out a tiny roar of protest before dropping back on all fours and padding away.
Flake let out a sigh of relief and began pulling at her fur again. As she was doing so she felt teeth sink into her scruff and drag her out of the thicket. When she was free she clambered to her paws her eyes wide when she saw the big gray wolf standing in front of her.
The gray wolf's eyes were full of sympathy, "You found me." He said, sighing in relief.
Flake looked at him in shock, "B..Blake?" She said staring into his blue eyes.
Blake dipped his head, "Its almost morning, you will be waking soon. I'm near a cave, there are berry bushes near the entrance, when you reac there give a mighty howl and I'll be there.
Flake dipped her head, her eyes welling up with tears of joy, "I'm so glad I found you." She said as she buried her muzzle into his fur. She felt herself beginning to fade back in the waking world, "See you later." She whispered to her brother before fading away.
