~Chapter 6
As I stood in the nearly empty hall of Jefferson Davis High, I thought of all the wrong I've done, all the people I've hurt. But none of it could compare to the pain I've caused the one person who had stuck around and put up with it all. And now seeing the pained expression reappear on Abby's face, memories from that night floored through my head...
"Surprise!!" the word erupted through the room causing me to jump.
"OMG! Chase! You did this all for me!?" Abby looked excitedly around the room full of party guest and decorations.
"Nicole helped".
"You guys are awesome!"
Abby kissed Chase on the cheek before running to me and throwing her tiny arms around my neck.
"You're the bestest friend a girl could ask for!" She screamed over the music blaring throughout the house.
"Happy Birthday day!"
"Love the dress!"
"Damn girl, you lookin' hella fine"
"Don't say that! Chase will kick your ass if he hears!"
I heard the comments coming from the people around us as Abby disappeared into the crowd of teenagers I didn't recognize, leaving me standing alone...
"You promised".
"I know I did... and I'm so sorry".
"Bullshit".
"Abby stop being such a bitch and forgive me already!".
"No use. I'll say I forgive you then you'll just go and fuck up again. You always do".
"So this is really it? You're just going to hate me forever then?"
"Yes"
I watched as Abby pushed her way through the school doors and out into the now pouring rain. How? How could I have messed things up this bad. I wish I could go back and do it all over again. Never have gone to that party, never have done what i did. Never have betrayed my best friend.
I sat alone watching all the half naked drunk party guest dancing and grinding on each other and was reminded why I didn't drink.
A boy that I remembered from the football team stumbled over to the coach where I was sitting and sat uncomfortably close.
"Hey babe... Wana Dance?" He leaned in closer to me and breathed in me face, his breath reeking of alcohol.
"Um noo.."
"Com' on baby" he scrambled up off the couch and grabbed my arm, trying to pull me up with him.
"Let go of me!"
"I want to dance!" he yelled at me.
"I said-"
"Leave her alone, Andrew".
As soon as Chase appeared from the crowd Andrew released my arm.
"Um..sor- sorry" he mumbled before walking away.
"Thanks, Chase".
"No problem. Andrew can be a huge ass when he's wasted but he's a good guy".
