The alarm blared out loud, so loud it hurt my sensitive ears. I opened my eyes to see what time it was. It's five in the morning, time for Shane to get up and get ready for a long day at work. I shut the alarm off an rolled over to wake Shane up.. Although he wasn't there. Me being my worried self I went to find him. I walked slowly to the bathroom, the light wasn't on. I walked down the stairs in our two story house. I looked in the kitchen, wasn't there. Looked in the living room and there he was watching the early morning  news. I walked over to him an straddled his lap giving him a kiss good morning. He looked up at me and smiled, as his strong hands went to my growing two month pregnant belly. We just stared into each other's eyes. 'I love this man so much.' I thought to myself. I leaned in to kiss him again, an he met me halfway. I smiled into the kiss.  He slid his hands to my hips and whispered in my ear "I have to get ready for work baby." He slid me off his lap and stood up stretching, he brought his arms down and grabbed me in a hug. He kissed my forehead. Then retreated up the stairs to our bedroom to get ready. I watched till he disappeared around the corner. I placed my hand on my belly and walked slowly to the kitchen to start a nice breakfast for the man I love so dearly. I turned on the lights, an walked over to the sink filling up the coffee pot to begin brewing it. I then went over to the fridge an took out orange juice, bacon, eggs and cheese. Everything you would need for a delicious omelette. I placed those items on the counter, I slid over to one of the cupboards an took out a cup for juice. I filled it up an drank. Feeling refreshed, I got out a pan and started to cook the bacon. I got out the necessary vegetable’s and started to cut them up and put them in their own pan to cook. I checked the bacon, and smiled. 'It's looking good.' I thought to myself. I got out a bowl and beat some eggs. When the eggs were beat, I stirred the veggies which consisted of red peppers, green peppers, onions, and a hot red pepper for heat. The veggies being done to my perfection. I divided them up evenly, I left half in the pan an half on a plate. I poured some eggs into the veggie pan to make an omelet. When it was almost done I put some cheese on it, an flipped one side over. I took two plates out an placed the omelet on one of the plates. I did the same to the other on when it was done, during the time the other omelet was cooking I had made some toast. I placed the bacon on to each of the plates. I took them over to the island that we share our meals at. I smiled as I heard Shane coming down the stairs. He walked into the kitchen and said " Mmm, smells wonderful babe." "Thank you." I replied. I told him to sit down as I got his coffee and my juice. I sat down across from him and smiled as he enjoyed his breakfast. I looked down and slowly started to eat. It was delicious. I took a swig of my juice, an enjoyed this morning with my boyfriend. When Shane was done he stood up an rinsed his dishes off and put the in the dishwasher. He came back to the island an drank the rest of his coffee, and said he was taking off early to see his best friend Rick who was sadly in a coma at the hospital. I stood up and kissed him passionately an hoped he had a wonderful safe day, an to give Rick my get well wishes. I walked him to the door, and gave him one last kiss goodbye for the day. I watched as he got into his jeep and took off waving to me. As he took off down the road I seen a man struggling to walk. He was dragging one of his legs behind him, his skin looked pale and chalky, like a corpse. I thought about calling out to him an offering my help, but something told me not to. I returned back into the house and locked the door behind me.

I began to have a panic attack, that man, the way he looked horrifying. I called Shane, I needed answers, I needed his comfort.
"Hello?" He answered.
"Shane? Shane... There is a guy walking around outside, he looks...all decayed an dead. I'm scared babe." I frantically told him, trying to calm my breathing. I needed to calm down, being like this is not good for my baby’s health.
"Nova, calm down it's just probably a homeless man walking around. If your really scared then go to my gun cabinet, grab one of the handguns. Check to make sure it's loaded, and just hold on to it all day, okay babe. I've got to go, I just pulled up to the hospital. I love you so much. See you when I get home from work." He replied so calmingly, he always knows how to get my nerves to ice down.
I took in a few deep breaths and walked to the back door to make sure it was locked. When I was done I walked up the stairs into Shane's office. When I reached the door, I opened it to the nice smell of gun oil. I walked over to the gun cabinet and grabbed the first handgun I see. I ended up grabbing my favorite one. I knew everything about this gun, the way it felt in my hand was relaxing. I check to see if it was loaded, thankfully it was, I made sure the safety was on an closed the safe, locking up the rest of Shane’s collection. I made my way back down the stairs to the kitchen to take care of my dishes, I put the pans and utensils I used into the dishwasher with everything else. I put the soap in the dispenser an closed the door, and started it. Then I washed down all the surfaces, an swept the floors. Once the kitchen was clean I sat down on the couch glass of juice in hand an the TV remote in the other. I turned the news on. The reporter was talking about a crash that happened late last night, then something weird happened. The reporter was interrupted from a world wide broadcast system shooting warning after warning.

“There is a new virus spreading very fast causing the dead to walk among us an terrorizing our healthy population, please be careful and stay at home, lock your doors and windows. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT let anyone inside your house that looks sickly. This is not a joke. We will keep you updated. Have a good day!” I turned the TV off in a panic, I knew something didn't seem right with that guy stumbling around earlier. I went up to the window in my living room, I looked outside and saw people running and screaming from these sickly walkers chasing them. I backed away from the window and closed the curtain. I sat back down, turned the TV back on, the same report was being played over and over. My thoughts started racing in circles, making laps in my brain. I honestly froze, I froze an time kept going. I lost myself, until a urgent knock broke me out of my haze. I ran to the front door and looked through the peephole to see who it could possibly be. I was Lori and her son Carl. I unlocked the door and rushed them inside right before this walked caught them. I had the gun in hand and slid it of safety and popped a couple bullets into the walking corpses head, I breathed in sweet relief when its dusty body dropped no longer moving. I silently thank Shane for teaching me how to aim at a moving object. I shut the door and locked it, turning to look at a terrified mother an son.

“Did you see the reports?” Lori asked, looking at me.

“Yes, but I kinda got lost in thought, whats going on?” I replied, curious as to why they came here. I walked into the kitchen grabbing us all cups and pouring us all some water. I handed Carl his first with a smile trying to ease the tension I could feel radiating off his small body. His mother was never really good at comforting him. Since his father was shot on the job, an put into a coma. Carl has been silent. He doesn't talk much, except to me. He has come to me a couple times because his mom is far too lost in her sorrow to care for her son.

“The reports are saying that we need to evacuate to local shelters. This virus is getting out of control. They are saying that this is very serious, and not to panic…. How can you not panic, some of our friends an family, and neighbors are trying to eat each other.” Lori starts explaining.

“This is just so unreal… So pack the necessities.”

“Yes, I was wondering if Carl could stay here with you while I run back home and get our things?” Lori asked. I of course agreed. I asked Carl if he could help me pack, he agreed an followed me. I packed clothes for both Shane and I. I then grabbed Shane’s gun bag an began to assemble it, I told Carl to go grab a snack from the cupboard in the kitchen so he wasn't around all these guns. I put all the ammunition in the right pocket an began to strap the guns in there places. I grabbed the belt Shane had recently purchased for me, it holds my hand gun, and my throwing knives. I secured it around my waist an zipped the bag up an carried it down stairs. I put everything by the door that opens to the garage. I went to the kitchen and asked Carl if he was okay. He just shrugged his shoulders as he picked at the fruit pastry he had chosen to eat. He wasn't up for talking so I didn't push it on him. I began to fill gallon jugs of water an packed all the canned goods an boxed food that I could fit. I also grabbed the cooler from the closet an stocked it up with refrigerator stuff. I was not it go to waist when we could eat it up before it goes bad, all I had to do was keep it cool. So I grabbed frozen food an all the ice I had an put it in as well. I couldn't carry all of this. It was just too heavy for me. Right as I tried to push the cooler down the hall Shane busted in through the door finding me in the middle of my struggle.

“Nova, I'm so glad your okay.” He said pulling me into a tight embrace. I hugged him back and just let the tears I've been holding in this whole time.

“I'm happy that your home… Shane, What is going on out there?” I asked looking deep into his eyes looking for any type of answer. I looked an didn't find anything, he didn't know himself. He didn't even have to say anything, I already knew his answer. I just cried, pulling myself closer into his big strong arms. I cannot believe this is happening. What is happening to our home. What are we gonna do?
