Chapter Two

The bus finally pulls up to school after the treacherous hour of the girls on the bus giving me death glares and Dylan in poking me in the side, my side now has an angry red finger print so my day's obviously going so well.

That was sarcasm by the way.

I jump off the bus and see everybody in groups surrounding the front of the school. As cliche as it sounds, everybody had their pace in the school. You had the cheerleaders, the jocks, the nerds, music lovers etc. Where did I fit in you ask? Nowhere. I mean yeah I'm smart and love music as much as the next person, but I was never popular. That didn't bother me though, I never liked attention anyway. I went around to the side of the school and met my best, and only, friend.

I spot my best friend Sydney who just lit a cigarette. Sydney and I have been friends since the day we were born, literally our moms had us in the same hospital room only I was born seven minutes earlier, but that's a story for another time the point is that we've been inseparable since, well, birth.

"Hey Lex," Sydney says as she puffs out smoke.

Sydney is pretty intimidating to most people with her dark clothes and bad reputation. Today she was wearing a black crop top that said too cool for school with a black leather skirt that went about mid-thigh. She paired it with all black Converse and a black beanie. Sydney used to have blonde hair until she dyed it black with pink and white bangs matching her coal colored contacts, her original eye color is green but like I said she has her own style. She also has her ears, cartilage, belly button and a whole bunch of other piercings that I don't want to talk about since I had to hold her hand through all of them. In other words she's basically telling society to fuck off. Her words, not mine.

I scrunch my face as the smoke puff comes near me, I swat my hand at it before I can inhale anymore. "You know those things can kill you right?"

Sydney shrugs and plays with her snake bites, "Eh, I don't exactly care at this point anyways I'm going to die anyways might as well speed up the process."

I hate when she talks like this, as if her life doesn't matter. Ever since her dad left she hasn't been the same Sydney I knew back in middle school.

"Hey," Sydney pulls my earlobe, "don't worry about me, okay? I'm fine alright."

My head droops down and I look at the gravel and grass under my shoes. "Well Syd can you sue me for being so worried about you? You're like the literal sister I've always wanted I can't help but worry about my little sister." I say the last part with a smirk.

Sydney lets out a little laugh. "You're such a nerd and don't think I care that you're seven minutes older because I don't," she says and pokes me in my side.

Yes, in my side.

The side that has just been poked for a half an hour by Dylan.

"Ow," I hold my side, but quickly pull my hand back before Sydney could see.

"Lex, don't act like I didn't see that why were you holding your side. Do I have to fight somebody, because I will. I even have my box cutter on me." She drops her cigarette on the ground and steps on it before going through her bag, a look of murder on her face. "I swear I will cut-"

"Syd!" I pull her hand that was going into her bag since I definitely know for a fact that she does have a box cutter. "No, no you don't have to fight anyone Syd. This morning Todd poked me in my side to wake me up that's why I was holding it, nothing to worry about. And why the hell do you still carry that box cutter around, give it here." I hold my hand out waiting for her to give up the box cutter.
