The Bennet's kitchen was filled with the aroma of warm cake. Zane had just taken it out of the oven. Zane was the one to usually cook because he was much better than Rikki, but they both were fine with that.
It was their daughter Jamie's first birthday and people should be arriving any minute. Rikki put Jamie in her high chair and was just about to open a can of food when the ground started shaking. Startled, Rikki grabbed her child and she and Zane opened the door to look outside. The air was thick with smoke and the sky was black like charcoal. All of a sudden a loud siren sounded off.
"Its happening." Rikki says under her breathe.
"What?" Asks Zane, reassuringly clutching his wife's shoulder.
"Mako island. Something seemed different but I didn't believe it,we need to get-" Rikki was interrupted by her phone going off. "Its Emma , she wants to meet at the shack ." " right now!?" Replies Zane. "So we can stay together." Rikki says, her voice shakey .
They both quickly run around the house to grab a few Belongings and head out the door, Rikki holding on to her daughter thinking about how so much could crumple,so fast.
