I wake up, open my eyes but close them not even a second later. I can't seem to open my left eye and my head is hurting really bad. I try to get up as slow as possible. When I'm finally on my feet, I look in the mirror and see that my left eye is all bruised up. There are also bruises on my left jaw and I can see a small cut in my left eyebrow.

"Shit," I sigh and put on a robe.

I unlock the door and walk downstairs as quietly as possible. Once I've entered the kitchen, I see Colin sitting there, eating his cereal.

"Morning," I say. Colin turns around and looks at me. His mouth opens and I just shake my head no.

"I know, it looks terrible," I look around the room and don't smell the scent of alcohol, so William can't be here anymore, otherwise we would smell him for sure, so that leaves me with one single question; where even did he go?

Colin gets up from the stool he was sitting on and gets me a freezing pad out of the freezer. He puts it in a towel and gently lets it touch my face.

"Where did he go?" I ask Colin as he removes the towel and looks at the bruises.

"He packed his suitcase and took every penny he could find, didn't say a word and left, and I don't know, but something in me says that he has left us forever,"

"I hope so,"

"Me too, Skye, me too,"

"Should I call your counselor and say you're sick?" Colin looks at me with a concerned yet caring look on his face. I know I should agree with him, but I have two tests today which I can't miss so I think it would be dumb to skip school.

"No, I have to go. I have these tests today which are important for me getting a scholarship so I have to go," I try to smile a bit but can't smile widely due to the bruising on my jaw.

"Are you sure? I'm pretty sure we can work something out,"

"I'm sure. I'll go home straight after, okay?"

"If you're sure you can actually make them, then fine. But at least let me drive you to school today, you can't bike your way to school looking and feeling like this,"

"Thanks, I'd appreciate that," I put down the freezing pad, give Colin a quick hug and walk up to my room. I open my closet and put on some comfortable clothes. Usually I would do my make-up, but I don't even bother doing one side of my face with the other side looking like absolute shit. I put my hair in front of my left side of my face as much as possible, pack my bags and walk downstairs.

"Can we go?" I say when I enter the kitchen, only to meet nothing but silence as Colin's nowhere to be found.

"Col? Where are you?" A few moments later I hear him rushing down the stairs while putting on his jacket.

"Yeah, sorry, but I'm ready,"

We walk out the front door to Colin's car that's parked on the driveway. It's not a very fancy car being about a thing manufactured twenty years ago, but it's still getting us where we need to be and that's all that matters.

After a short drive we end up in the parking lot of the school. Colin doesn't even bother to park the car like he should, but he just stops in front of the gate to let me out.

"I'll text you when I'm done,"

"Sure thing, but Skye," He softly grabs my wrist just when I was opening the porter of the passenger's seat.

"Yeah?"

"People probably say things about your face or at least look at you, but don't let them bring you down, they don't know what you've been through,"
