Chapter One: Pilot
It all started when I moved over the summer of 2013.
I've moved two times before this, living in my previous home in a small town for 6 great years. My dad got transferred in the grocery store business line and that's why we had to leave.
My first night in my new town, well city, I was unpacking boxes in my room and there was a knock at the door. My mother opened it to three girls standing in front of her. They came to inform us of a block party that was happening to welcome us into the neighbourhood.
I came downstairs for "dinner" shortly after. We had pizza we had picked up from Costco earlier. I looked around the new house.. Terrified. This wasn't home. It didn't look like home, it didn't smell like home and it didn't feel like home. I didn't like it at all. And I didn't want to attend this 'block party' either, all I wanted to do was go through my boxes looking at my old things that reminded me of the real home.
My whole family went anyways. My brother, Dylan, put on his cowboy boots. My mother, Terri, put on her scarf and my father, Colin, put on his coat. Me, I went in my pajamas. I bet I made some great first impressions that night.
At the block party, I met a girl named Erin, she is in my grade at my school so people were introducing me to her. My eyes scanned up and down at her appearance. She wore an orange tshirt and boys athletic shorts with DC shoes, not really my type of outfit but whatever, I was desperate for someone to talk to about my new school.
She told me about all the classes, teachers, the populars and the boys. I could already tell that this was going to be a long, crazy year.
She also said she would walk with me on the first day and introduce me to her group of friends.
I also got to talk to one of the girls that had knocked on my door earlier that day, Nicole. She is in grade seven. Not quite in my school yet. She wore a baggy blue v-neck shirt with a breast pocket and some jean shorts. She wore her bleach blonde hair down, cascading just at the top of her shoulders. Someone I could relate to more. We talked and got to know each other more too. It was nice. She was funny.
When the party ended and I walked home with my family, I went on Instagram and followed Erin and Nicole, then friended them on Facebook.
Before I knew it, the first day of my new school had rolled around. As arranged, Erin and I walked to school together.
We arrived at the huge brick building and my eyes widened at all the students there. My old school was so much tinier than this. So much to take in at once, my eyes trailed off everywhere looking around. My first class was social studies. Erin rudely ditched me to go to her class and left me with her best friend, Emily. I had no clue who this girl was. But she was kind.
She wore her dirty blonde hair down, naturally wavy. No makeup, but still pretty. She had a t-shirt on with some jeans and her cowboy boots. Her mouth was filled with metal, braces with green elastics. She walked me to room 116 and told me Erin and her and the rest of their friends would be in the library at break, so I could meet them there.
I got to my class and I sat alone. I wanted to cry right then and there, missing my old school and my old friends. I didn't belong here.
After what seemed like forever, break began. I darted through the hallways and into the library. Erin signalled for me to join her at a table with 6 other girls there.
Ayla, the thick boned, short but tough girl with a lip piercing and half of her head shaved, the rest purple. Way different from my old friends.
Kendra, Ayla's best friend. She had long, straight, black hair. Her tall body clothed in a red mid-sleeved shirt with some blue jeans and flats. A little cupcake necklace dangled around her neck. She seemed sweet and innocent.
Remy, kind of the lone wolf in the group that mingled throughout other groups. She had short black hair with blue in it. Black jeans wrapped around her medium height legs and a Doctor Who hoodie on her torso.
Kaia, at first, she seemed really weird to me. Her presence annoyed me. She wore black converse, a green day t-shirt and black skinny jeans. She was also mid height. She wore a Peter Pan quote necklace and a little heart necklace dangling above it.
Emily, which I met before.
Tiana, big blue eyes, had a book in her hand and headphones in her ears. Short wavy blonde hair and a sweater on. I recognized her from my socials class.
I awkwardly seated myself next to Erin. She wasn't my friend but she was the closest thing to it. I could tell I wasn't going to fit in with the group. Even Erin had struggled to include me in her friends conversations.
As I looked at everyone sitting at that table, the only one I could see myself being friends with was Emily. I saw potential in her. Something about this girl.. I could picture us getting along.
As the rest of the school week went on, I wasn't getting along with anyone. After school I would hang out with Nicole, she's my neighbour.
Erin, still trying to be my friend, started to neglect her best friend Emily. I could see it. In PE, the only class our whole group had together, Erin would always be talking to me. I guess she was just trying to make me feel welcome. But while she was trying to make me feel so welcome, she made Emily feel unwelcome.
I could see that Emily hated me for that. I guess she thought that I was stealing her best friend away.
The populars ignored me. I looked at them and they reminded me of my old friends. Gorgeous, long haired, athletic and not far from perfect. They would flirt with the guys and gossip all day. I didn't know who or what they were talking about but it fascinated me to watch them.
In my old school, my friends and I would always be gossiping and flirting. People were intimidated by us for some reason. Now, here, it was interesting being the one watching them and being intimidated by them.
I didn't have anyone to flirt with here. None of the guys really interested me. Except for one.
He wasn't in any of my classes. He wasn't even in my grade (he was in grade 8) I met him at the library. He had short brown hair which he gelled up creating perfect waves. His eyes were magnificent, brown orbs with long lashes framing them. He was simple, yet he soon became my world.
