A Step Ahead

I

        You ever get the feeling that today is going to be a really bad yet awkward kind of day.
  Well I have those type of days quite often... but this day was going to be way worse.
 
  December 14, 2002 was the most horrible yet weirdest day of my life. Everything started like how my days usually go (the whole daily routine taking a shower brushing my teeth and my hair then getting dressed and ready for school) as I was doing all this it had just hit me. It was my last year at my high school in Lewiston, Maine. Why was it my last year you ask, some probably think I'm graduating but that is not the case? I am being moved by force thanks to my parents. I am a straight “A " student and I was given a letter to go to a private school for smart kids like me so I can graduate early.
 
"Noah honey it’s almost time for school hurry up and eat so I can go drop you off." Yells my mom from down stairs. Also yes my name is Noah Richards. I am a sophomore in high school. I don't have many friends but my best friend Grace. I walked down the kitchen and ate the waffles my mom made for me that day. "Mom I'm ready when you are." I said to her as I walk to the car when my phone starts ringing. “Noahhhhhhhhhh!" Grace screams over the phone. “That’s a new way to say hello." I say laughing. “I am so upset I didn't get to eat this morning thanks to my sibling." She says fake crying over the phone." Well I can ask my mom if we can stop by the local donut shop?." I said still laughing." You are a Saint Noah." She says and hungs up.
 
After stopping by the donut I arrive at school to see Grace pacing back and forth in the front of the school. She was pissed alright but what she was pissed about? "I will come by to come and get you from school later okay sweet heart." My mom says  kissing me on the forehead. “Okay, but I think I will just walk home. Is that okay if Grace comes over?" I ask and she smiles at me and nods yes. Hugging her one last time I get out of the car and approach Grace almost giving her a heart attack." Noah don't sneak up on me like that I was so close to beating the day light out of you." She yells; her fist about and inch from my face." I'm sorry next time I'll give you call before I get here next time." I say to her as I move her fist away from my face and give her the donut holes." Here a present of apology." I said smiling at her while she smiles and takes them." Thanks Noah." She says with a smile.
 
We started to walk to the school building as everyone started running. From a far I saw why Ethan Mickgumary. He is the star quarter back of the football team. Also lead vocalist and guitarist of his own band. No wonder whyeveryone liked him. To be honest I catch my self looking at him from time to time." Hey Ethan." She waves causing him to stop what he is doing and walk over to us. He casually walks up and hugs Grace as if they have been friends forever. " Hey Grace how are you" He asks with a gental smile." I am good just thinking on how we can get more people to join our club." She says to him. She then looks at me  so does Ethan and they both start smiling at me like creeps." Noah would you like to join our club?" Ethan asks as Grace hugs me so I can not escape. I look at Grace the smiling and laughing then I look up at Ethan his smile making my heart skip a beat. "I-I will join." Noah says softly blushing. "Welcome to the club Noah." He said giving me a heart warming smile as he extends his hand.
 
I take his hand. It is so soft and his grip is strong. As he releases my hand I can not help but blush at how warm and firm his hand was compare to mine. Still smiling at me, my heart started to race even more. Just Etahn's smile alone made my body feel weird. "I have to go please excuse me." I say as I walk by  them both. Grace runs up to and places her hand on my shoulder." When school is over go to the old shack in the back of the school that is where our club is going to be meeting." She says with a smile then and takes her hand off my shoulder. I nod at them both and walk to class. As I sit in my classes I had wondered what would await me in the club I am about to part-take in, upside my bes friend is in the club as well. As time goes by slowly every class period I finally finish my last class of the day. Walking out of class I make my way to the old shack.
 
Arriving there i go to knock on the door, but the second I knock on the door it creaks open. I welcome myself in and look around in the dust old shack. “Hello is anyone in here!?" I yell softly " Hey Noah you’re the first one here congratulations." Says a derp raspy voice. I look behind me to see Ethan standing by a podiom smiling in my direction. His smile seems so gentle and it made me feel safe. “Noah!" He yells softly causing me to jump. “Y-yes Ethan." I said in a shy timid voice that I never knew I had." Do you and Grace like each other?" He says smileing as he sits down in a chair. I blink for a second and start to laugh a bit as I sit next to him." No she's like a sister to me that would be a bit odd if I was dating her." I reply the begin to look at the floor." Good then me saying this will make this a little less weird, but I like you Noah." He says to me like it is nothing. How is one suppose to even respon to the most popular fuy in school telling you that he likes you. Ethan looks at me with a confused look on his face then he smiles." You seem to be confused on what I mean." Ethan says getting closer to my face. My cheeks starts yo go from punk to red in a single heart beat. His face was so close to mine. It felt like at any moment her could kiss me. Just as he and I stay there looking at one another Grace walks in." Hi you guys." She says with her eyes closed as she smiles causing me to fall out of my chair from her scaring the living hrll out of me.
