The plain sight of a a tranquil moon hidden behind bunches soft clouds showed clearly through my big window. The curtains were still neatly tied up at the sides, allowing the moonlight to be the only source of brightness in my dark bedroom. It was late and I woke up with grumbling sounds from my tummy, mommy wouldn't be happy with me being up at night but I am hungry. I sat at the edge of my bed pulling out the pair of furry socks that I was wearing and set my little feet down onto the floor, feeling how cold and hard it was. Carefully reaching for the door knob, being sure not to make a sound. No one will see me.
I tip-toed down the hallway only to hear loud thuds and shattering glassware, fluent and rough exchange of Spanish turned from a voluble conversation to loud shouting as I continued on my toes down the stairs.
Creaaaaak.
The shouting stopped. The air turned still. I didn't dare to move but I could see mommy sitting by the table with her hands in her hair. Her eyes were puffy and red, like how I looked when I didn't want to go to school because the kids said mean things to me. I could see daddy, he was holding a glass bottle, but it didn't look like a bottle. It's ends were sharp.
They were both looking at me.
Daddy is coming after me.
I ran up the stairs as quickly as I could, the sounds of floorboards creaking loudly were following right behind me but I didn't care anymore. I ran into my room and slammed my door shut. I unhesitatingly turned the golden lock and climb onto my bed, into the covers to seek refuge.
It sounds too loud.
The thumping of my heart that bounced off the four walls of my room. I was scared yet I couldn't cry. I couldn't scream, because I will be in trouble.
I heard footsteps and constant banging against my door. I hid my face under my pillows, hoping that it'll all go away but it didn't. I know this feeling, I know it too well.
“Let me in.”
I'm scared.

I could hear as I forced my eyes open and fall back into the present. My hand was cramped from clenching it into a fist beneath my pillow, and my teeth chattered upon a sharp intake of breath.
“Open up!” I was startled by the voice coming from outside whilst banging on my door. My eyes jolted open, was I still dreaming? I could continue lying down in fear.
“Earth to Anna, open up or I'll break this door down with my own hands!” The familiar voice of a female said again. No, I wasn't dreaming. I kicked my comforter to the ground and made my way to open my door with hands that were still trembling from the nightmare.
“SURPRISE!” She yelled in my face before throwing herself onto me, giving me a hug.
A girl with dark blonde hair that was tied into a top knot, a plaid button down with a pair of dark washed jeans. Her eyebrows were perfectly shaped and filled in, an extra flick of eyeliner on her upper eyelid. This girl? She's my best friend Lucy, but what was she doing here?
“Ay dios mio, Lucy you gave me a heart attack!” I hugged her back and closed my eyes, it felt good to be in her presence after what I've woken up to, it calmed me down. “What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be back only in a couple of days?”
“Exactly why it's called a surprise!” She tightened her grip around my shoulders, the smell of Chanel's N°5 flew through my mind, it's a scent that was distinctly registered as her.
