Bright and early in the morning Donnie had gone back to the lair where he was his normal appearance again, strolling through his home with his family greeting him from the kitchen. From what it looks like it seems that he is packing up a few things in his lab and placing them into a duffel bag. When his brothers and Splinter noticed this, a lot of red flags were flying up in the air.
"Hey, Donnie! Um... what are you doing?" Raphael asked, Mikey and Splinter, following behind him. Leo was still upset about the choices his brother had been making, but he wanted to know what his little brother was up to today... especially if he was with Gray recently. Family sticks together and Leo will do whatever he can to calm himself down to be involved with his brother's new life.
"It's all gonna be fine!" Don exclaimed, zipping his duffel up and throwing it over his shoulder. He seemed to be very excited and hopeful about whatever it is that's got him smiling.
"Wait, wait, come on, dude!" Mikey chased after his brother. "What are you doing?"
"I'm gonna sort things out!" Don grinned much wider, the duffel bag beginning to already slip off his arm.
"With what-- you're moving out?" Mikey finally put it all together. If he's right, he's shocked to know that one of his mutant brothers is literally attempting to leave the nest. Never did anyone in the lair think they would see this day.
Leonardo was standing behind the rest of his family as he got a very long gaze at his brother. He saw that there was this very funny looking in his eye and it was not just because of the baby being involved. He had his arms crossed, and he let out what he was thinking. "Donnie... what did you do?"
Don relaxed his expression, straightening up his posture and exposing the truth in front of his brothers and father. They may not like it, but it's gonna be known sooner or later. "Gray and I... share a last name." He nervously smirked, trying to make the best out of this situation.
It appears his family is somewhat opposed to this decision. Splinter wasn't very fond of it. "You're married?!" Splinter shouted. "How? You can't be!"
"Donnie!" Leo walked up to his little brother, clutching his shoulders to shake him. "Do our lives mean nothing to you?"
Don spoke up. "Leo, I know it's gonna be okay!"
"No!" Raphael added to this conversation, the tone in his voice obviously beginning to panic. "No, it is not going to be okay! Who said that it was going to be okay?"
"You know this makes absolutely no sense, it is completely out of character!" Leo said to his brother, overwhelmed that all of this was happening so fast. A few days ago, the Brothers and Splinter were just mutants living in the sewers of New York, and now they are about to be involved with a newly twisted life. "Donnie, do you even know if this baby is actually yours? Have you asked for a blood test?"
The nerd's eyes widen at Leonardo. "I can't do that, she's my wife, guys! And it's not like that. You all don't know her."
"Neither do you!" Raph barked.
With a groan, Donnie rubbed his eyes under his glasses. For a split second, he stares at his brothers and Splinter. He'd hate to let them down, especially like this! However, he is content with Gray for an unknown reason unrelated to the infant. He has a strong affection for this young woman, and it's a wonderful, uncommon chance for him. "I know I haven't talked about this to any of you, but I'm going to live with Gray for a little while. She needs me to help with the baby as it grows."
As much as Splinter disagrees with his son's new choices, he wants to make things as easy as possible for him and his wife. His wife. That will be something to get used to. The rat cleared his throat, suggesting an idea that may be lighter on Donnie's existence and Gray's well-being. "Why not bring her down here, son?" He pushed through Raph and Mikey. "You can't be up there in an apartment!"
Donatello thought it could be the best idea. If he cared for Gray and the baby in the lair, she would have all she needed. He would check her vitals during the mutant pregnancy, measure the baby, take notes, but most importantly, not make her a lab rat out of this. He needed to respect her and her comfort. He nodded to his father. "I'll stay the night with her and speak to her about it."
"Donnie, I hope you hear yourself," Leo said to him, his arms crossed over his plastron. "You are unsure how to handle this, and we will help despite how dangerous it may be for all of us. It's just a tough pill to swallow."
The mutant who is known as a husband and soon to be a father turned away to go for the exit of the lair. He changed his appearance to his human form before reaching the surface and walked out of the alley with his belongings. Shortly after leaving the lair to go to Gray's apartment, Donnie thought about how he was going to start this conversation with his wife when it came to the homing arrangements for her. It's for the best.
As soon as he came through the apartment door, he shut it gently and set the duffel bag down at his feet. Gray was there to greet him in his human form, tall, with a fit build, and very handsome features. She smiled at Don, running her fingers through his dark short hair that is styled nicely, and his light eyes sitting behind those bold, magnified glasses. His cleft chin is what made him so unique and even more adorable. Gray felt his strong, muscular arms wrap around her waist, pulling her close to his chest. "Hey," He says to her.
"Hi." She grinned wider. "Everything okay?"
He nodded to her. "I talked to my family about moving in with you and... there might be some changes we need to discuss."
Grayson nodded to her new husband, who she is still getting around to loving. "Okay. What changes?"
"The housing arrangements." He specified. "It will be much safer for you to live with me and my family."
Her expression softened as she pulled away from Donnie, walking to the kitchen counter and leaning her lower back against it. She lowered her head to her chest for a moment before looking up at her spouse. "As in... live down there?" She pointed to the ground. "The sewers."
"Yes," Donnie replied to her. "We have to take into account the possibility that you're carrying a human hybrid in your womb"
How could she come to terms with this? She moved to New York to go to college, not get pregnant to a mutant turtle, and live with him in the sewers. If a hot pink-clothed gypsy were to unfold Gray's destiny in one of those silly crystal balls and inform Gray about her upcoming future, the young girl would've laughed in her face and would tell her to kick rocks. Yet here she is, pregnant with a baby and her mutant husband is standing in front of her while he suggests new homing arrangements.
"No, I can't do that." She said to him, shaking her head.
Don came close to her, taking her soft-skinned hands into his. "Gray, for the sake of you and the baby. I also can't be up here too long." He felt awful for her. What she knows up here in the human world will have to be left behind for a while, at least for a few days. He will do what he can to provide for her and ensure her safety. "We can sleep on it. I just want to care for you where it's safer." He said. A single tear fell from her left eye, streaming down her face. "Aww, Grayson, don't cry..." Don whispered to her, pulling her to his chest so that he could hold her. "It'll be okay, I promise." His lips kissed her crown, showing her his best affection for her.
All he could do was hold her as close as he could, so close that their hearts began to beat in unison as well as their breathing rhythm. They would find themselves on the couch napping with each other, dreaming about their possible future together, hoping there would be no unwanted issues.
