Chapter 9 . Delilah Spencer

I dreamed of a woman with dark attire and red lips. Her hair was dark brown, while the woman's irises were a vivid blue I'd never seen before. She was screaming in an indistinct room; all I could see fully was bleak unmarked white walls. The woman screamed in agony.

Droplets of tears spilled from her eyes. Those beautiful, unreal glass-like eyelashes. "Don't you dare leave me, baby! You are stronger than whatever sickness infected your lungs. Breath, darling! Breath," she pleaded.

What's going on? Who was this woman? Who's she talking to? Certainty not me, right? "Stay with me, sweetheart."

"I want to so much," I heard myself mutter somewhere deep within my soul. "God, I want to." What was I saying?! Why was I saying it?

I reached out to touch the woman's cheek, and my right hand passed through it. "I can't, my love."

My love? What the fuck? I don't even know this woman! What is happening to me? "You can't leave me yet, Delilah. I won't let them take you!"

Them?! "You know that I can't stay, love. You know I have to go," my mind whispered. Go where?! What is going on? Where am I right now?

The woman continued sobbing over a body I couldn't see. "You have to stay with me, sweet Lilah. Don't let those people in! Please, baby?" Her shoulders were quaking uncontrollably. I felt cold. Oh, so immensely frigid. Mentally, I knew what was coming. "Listen to me, okay? You have to be strong for me. I need you to live your life, babygirl."  

When she spoke next, her tone was smaller; despondent. "Please? Please? Please, my girl?" The words were a mantra. A strange pull in my chest began. A name came to me as well. "I love you so much, Alexandria Reid."

Breath escaped my lungs as life came rushing in...

"LILAH!" Alexandria screamed.

I awoke panting and crying, my tears becoming a palpable thing. "Alex..."
