It was twelve o'clock A.M. when my phone buzzed, illuminating Jamison's bright, kind eyes and wide smile. Why was he calling me so late? Nevertheless, I rose from the cheetah-print bed and picked up that insistent IPhone. "This better be damn good, Jami baby," I sighed.
"Liv, I don't-I can't-" Jamison sounded absolutely frantic. "Calon ran us off the road. He jumped in front of my car when I tried taking Matty away, and now I can't wake- oh, my God, I can't-!"
"Love," I held up my left hand, even though he couldn't see it through the phone. "Calm down, please? I'm coming to get you. Where-?"
"I don't give two shits, Jamison! This is our daughter, and a boy she, you, and I have come to love. If-and that's a big if-Lolana returns from the asylum, and those two kids are dead, that will cripple her! You know it." My voice rose with increasing confidence.
Jamison released a heavy sigh. "God, I hate it when you're right, Liv."
A tiny grin came to my lips. "I know, my love. Now, where are you three?" I asked, straightening the curly snakes on my head masquerading as hair. I disrobed as well, tossing the red nightgown and opting it for black slacks. "We're-oh, my God," he gasped. The phone seemed to clatter onto the ground with a deafening thud. "Jamison? Jami, babe? Are you-?"
Dial tone was my only response. I ran out of the apartment as if the hounds of hell were nipping at my heels with my iPhone still in hand.
