*Amy's POV

I gathered my thoughts quickly as the limo began to slow to a stop near the flashing display of our house. My brows furrowed. What's the IPC doing on our doorsteps? I shared a look with Aaron, and then in unison, we opened our doors and stepped out onto the concrete. Now that we actually were witnessing the scene from the inside, I saw lights flashing from cameras of paparazzi crews, who were pushing against several security guards. I noticed they were trying to clear a spot for us to quickly get inside the gates, so I followed a few of the sheriffs in. I had so many questions but I knew this wasn’t the time to ask. Aaron fell into step beside me and we were marched towards the front entrance.

Not long after the front doors closed shut behind us, Daren came rushing down the grand stairs and greeted us in the middle of the hallway.

“Miss and Mr. Qlue, there is indeed a great deal of information that is needed to be discussed immediately.” He turned to the officers. “We will be boarding the limo out—“

“Oh no, you’re not!” interrupted a male sheriff. “Our commander told us specifically not to let any of the civilians outside. It is for your safety and it is our job to keep you safe. We understand that things are taken care of differently here, but you must understand the consequences at stake.”

“I understand perfectly what is at stake and probably more than you do, sir.” Daren responded harshly. “I knew IPC officers would never allow this to happen so I have no choice but to hand you this.” He gave that officer a folded up note. The sheriff skimmed through the message. Then started to read it again, slowly this time. Finally after reading whatever was on the sheet of paper three times, he whispered to another officer, before giving Daren a stiff nod. Daren then walked Aaron and me to the parked limo outside. When I noticed that the camera crews were no longer lingering around, I felt my shoulders sag. I hate being in the center of attention, I thought. Better brace myself for whatever attracted them to my here later. Out of habit, I ducked my head and stared at the ground beneath me just in case they left some spy cameras to do their dirty work (because last time, they did).

The limo driver was surprised to find us waiting for our ride. He immediately went back to business mode when Daren gave him the directions to our unknown destination. “Take us to Lin Gwin,” he instructed. This time, I wasn't the only one who was confused. Why is Daren taking us to diner? Where is Father…he always took us there.

“Why?” I blurted out before I could stop myself.

I thought I saw sympathy and sadness in Daren’s eyes, which was not common since he often has to obtain a blank face basically all the time. “You just have to trust me--“

“NO! I need to know what the heck is going on right now. And where is Father? Why are…what…where…?” I breathed heavily, shocked at my own outburst.

The always too perfect advisor waited patiently until my anger and confusion reached a lower level. Now I know why he was hired.

“All I can say is that both of your questions will be answered when we are there.” And with that, he refused to say anything else I tried to get out of him throughout the entire ride.
