Eyes on Fire- Blue Foundation
Somewhere only we know- Keane
"Hey." His eyes burn into mine as he leans back in his seat. "Did you start on our project yet?"
"What?" I say. I'm still not sure if I'm imagining this whole scene.
"Our English project, the comic strip. Ringing any bells?" He asks. His voice sounds different than usual. He doesn't speak slowly or like he wants to murder someone, and enjoy it.
"Oh, that. No I haven't started. We were only assigned this morning. And what do you mean by our project?"
"We're partners aren't we?"
"I don't know," I cross my arms. "You tell me, because in class it kind of seemed like you wanted me to do all the work."
Instead of responding, he reaches his hand up towards my face and I instantly freeze. He tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear. His touch is warm and gentle, but his eyes say otherwise. There's a skinny sliver of green hidden behind big dark pupils. His eyes almost look black altogether, like two black holes, and I swear if I stare any longer they'll suck me right in.
I look over at Matt who looks just as confused as I feel. He stares at Four, who stares at me as my eyes go back and forth between Matt and Four. An uncomfortable tension settles between the three of us and I don't know how to break it.
"Come out with me tomorrow, Hunter," Four says, breaking the silence.
"What?" Matt and I both say at the same time.
Four's eyes peel away from me and he shifts his attention towards Matt, who he's failed to acknowledge this whole time. "Sorry, how rude of me. You must be Matt," he smiles and reaches out his hand to shake Matt's. Again, it's not a friendly smile, but more of a taunting smile. Like he knows how uncomfortable he's making him feel, and he's enjoying it.
"Yeah. And you are...?" He asks, shaking his hand cautiously.
"Four."
"What? Four what?"
"It's just Four, to you." There's a hint of belittlement laced within his voice. He turns his attention back to me as he gets up from our table. "I'll pick you up tomorrow at seven."
"Yeah, right," I snort. "You don't even know where I live."
He stands up and bends down towards me. His lips are just inches from my ear. "It's a small town Hunter Goode," he says in a hushed voice, but loud enough for Matt to hear.
I look at Matt, then at Four who is now walking away. He doesn't walk back to his friends though, instead he walks through a door and exits the building.
"What was that all about, and how do you know that... that creep," Matt exclaims, turning around to look for him but he's no longer there. "And how does he know my name?"
"I-I don't know. I mean, he's in my English class, but I haven't really spoken to him," I explain, but he doesn't look convinced.
"Sure doesn't look like it, sounds to me like he's going to take you on a date tomorrow." He tries to look unbothered as he finishes his drink, but I can tell he's agitated.
"Well he can think again, because I'd never go out with him. Plus, he doesn't even know where I live," I say, although I fear that won't last for too long.
"Maybe he was just messing with you, he didn't seem all too interested anyways." Matt says.
"Yeah." I force a laugh, although for some reason that stings a little. Not that I'm interested, just that he doesn't even know me, so he shouldn't have an opinion on me.
