I groaned, my head feeling heavy and my throat feeling dry. I blinked a few times to adjust my eyes against the bright light glaring down at me. Where was I?

What even happened?

“I see you're up,” I heard a soft voice, making me look up at the woman.

Even though my vision was blurry, I could figure that she was a nurse. I tried opening my mouth to say something, but for some reason my jaw felt so heavy, it felt as if I couldn't even move my body one bit. I felt a pang in my heart and soon even my heartbeats increased.

“I'll call the doctor. Please try to relax. You're okay now.”

That was all I heard before I saw her blurry figure disappear. I blinked a few times, trying to bring my vision back to normal, but it only worsened.

Was I in a hospital?

Memories of Papa John flashed through my head, making a smile spread across my face. He was always the only one to remember my birthday. But my smile soon faded when the memory of someone stabbing me followed soon after, making me swallow harshly. How did I even end up in the hospital?

“Ah, you're awake!” I heard another voice, making my head whip to its direction.

Another painful groan escaped my mouth after the painful action and I wanted to hold onto my aching neck, but I couldn't even get myself to move. I was feeling that weak.

I tried pushing all these complaints aside as I watched the doctor approach me. Typical white coat, blonde hair and glasses resting on a slightly croaked nose. He made me think of a character from the TV show ‘Heroes’. One of my favorites, I must say.

“How are you feeling?” he asked, handing me a glass of water.

The nurse from before helped me sit up and drink the water. I tried ignoring the nausea threatening me before answering the doctor.

“Honestly, weak.”

“Yeah, that's understandable,” he smiled. “Do you have any random pains or so?” he asked and I shook my head. “Okay. So, later today we'll be taking a few tests and if everything is alright, you'll be going home within a week.”

My lips curved into a gentle smile and I nodded, muttering a low ‘thank you’. The doctor left and I looked at the nurse.

“Excuse me,” I called, making her turn around. “How did I get here?”

“Oh, Killian Silver brought you here. I was just about to call him now,” she said.

My eyes grew wide and I started panicking. “No! Please don't call him!”

“Ma'am, he left his number saying I have to call him when you get up,” she frowned. “I have to...”

I sighed, slumping my shoulders, knowing that I would never be able to do anything to stop her. The fear he's spreading is greater than all of my pleas. She shot me an apologetic look before stuffing her hands in her pockets and walking off, leaving me alone in my hospital room.

I laid down again, hissing in pain as the wound in my side stung like a bitch. My head hit the pillow and I released a shallow breath. I wonder if my family heard the news about me getting stabbed. Would they visit me? Who am I kidding? They never cared about me. All they care about is the money I make.

Did Papa John know?

Just as that thought crossed my mind, the door opened, startling me a little. I thought the doctor or maybe the nurse came back to check up on me, but instead it was none other than the great Killian himself. My heart pounded in my chest, since all I wanted was to disappear in thin air.

He fidgeted with the keys in his hand as he approached me with a knowing look on his face. He moved the chair that was in the corner of my room towards me and sat down, clearing his throat.

“Hey,” he started, but before I could greet back he started speaking again. “How are you feeling?”

“I feel stabbed,” I replied honestly, but he just shook his head with a sly smile.

I heard the sound of his keys again and I mentally noted that Killian loves fidgeting.

“Thank you...” I trailed off. “For helping me...”

“Do you know who stabbed you?” he asked and I shook my head.

“I didn't even see the person's face.” I frowned.

“His name was Grey. One of Antonio's men.” he clarified.

I nodded knowingly, but froze when I realized what he said. I squinted my eyes at him, my heart suddenly pounding even more than it was earlier.

“What do you mean was?”

He chuckled humorlessly. His right had rested on his right knee as he leaned his left elbow on his left knee, fidgeting with his keys.

“Welcome to the Mafia world, sweetheart,” he said in a low, dangerous voice. “Here we kill, we don't forgive.”

My eyes grew wide and I stared at him with a dropped jaw. Did he really kill the man who stabbed me?

That thought only scared me even more now. If he could do that to Grey, what would he do to me when he actually found out the truth?

“Besides, shouldn't the actual question be why your uncle wants you dead?” he narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

I remained silent. That was the same question that continued dancing in my head. He wanted my help, so why did he attempt to kill me?

Was it part of his plan?

Even if, he knew that I wouldn't tell Killian the truth, because I have too much to hide. Dying or going to jail are no where near getting on my to do list.

Killian's intense stare gave me goosebumps, but I tried covering my fear even if I knew he noticed.

“I don't know. Why would I believe you? As far as I could know, you could've been the one who attacked me. You were there, weren't you?”

My response shocked him, but the shock left as soon as it came and got replaced by a cocky smirk.

“I wouldn't talk to a Mafia leader like that if I were you, little one.”

“Well, I'm not you,” I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest.

“If I was the one who attacked you, you would be dead now and the world would've never known of your existence,” he said, shocking me this time. “You'll be under my care from now on. I've already contacted your family. They'll be moved to one of my other hideouts where they'll be safe. As for you, you'll be living with me.” he said as if it was nothing.

“What?” I shrieked. “Y...you can't do that!”

He raised his eyebrow at me. “I can and I will. You either come with me at will, or I can do this the hard way. You know I don't hesitate.”

I could only glare at him and I guess he took that as a yes. It's not like I could do much about it anyways. He's Killian, and I'm just someone for him, like I am to everyone else.

A nobody...
